Matthias Eibinger

Childhood and Interests

As a child, Eibinger showed an aptitude for music, learning to play the piano. However, one of his main hobbies was computer games, which, like many, developed his strategic thinking and quick reaction skills. He also had a pronounced talent for math, which later became an important advantage at the poker table.

Education and Army Service

Matthias successfully completed high school, excelling in the sciences, especially math. After his studies, he did his compulsory service in the Federal Army, where he acquired the skills of discipline and stamina. These qualities help him today to cope with the pressure at the poker table and maintain high concentration in the longest high stakes poker sessions.

Still living in Seyersberg, Eibinger successfully combines his participation in major international poker tournaments with his personal life. His ability to combine calmness and determination makes him one of the most successful Austrian poker players.

Early Success and Transition to Hyper-Turbo Tournaments

Success wasn’t instantaneous at first, as Eibinger tried different formats of play until he found himself in the hyper-turbo Sit ‘n’ Go tournaments on PokerStars. He worked hard on his game and soon reached the highest level in the format, earning Supernova Elite status multiple times. However, after PokerStars canceled their VIP program, Eibinger had to find new ways to grow his career.

Transition to Multi-Table Tournaments (MTT)

Eibinger decided to switch to multi-table tournaments (MTTs), which required him to adapt to the new environment and learn to play with deeper stacks. He took a break for almost a year to fully focus on learning. This approach allowed him to gain a deeper understanding of key aspects of multi-table tournaments, including short stack management and independent betting models (ICMs).

Eibinger returned to the game, confident in his abilities, and soon began competing at the highest level, participating in high stakes tournaments. Thanks to this decision, he quickly learned how to win from the best players in the world and became one of the renowned professionals competing in both online and live tournaments.

Live Poker Achievements

Eibinger has had considerable success in live tournaments, earning millions of dollars during his career. Here is a list of his notable achievements in live poker:

• October 2023. Triton Super High Roller Series Monte-Carlo: 1st place in the Main Event with a prize pool of $125000, where the prize pool was $3461261;
• March 2020. PartyPoker LIVE Sochi Super High Roller Series: 2nd place in the $100 No-Limit Hold’em event, $1008000 earned;
• May 2018 ARIA High Roller: 2nd place in a $100,000 tournament, $1060,060 earned;
• April 2019. EPT Monte Carlo €50000 High Roller: 1st place, winning €844080 (about $942495);
• August 2018 EPT Barcelona €100,000 Super High Roller: 3rd place, earned €759,680 (approximately $880564);
• November 2018. Won a $2,000 buy-in tournament in Las Vegas, earning $575,000;
• August 2018. Finished in 7th place in the €51000 Super High Roller at EPT Barcelona for €110000 (approximately $135057).

Online Poker Achievements (in List)

Matthias Eibinger has left a significant mark on online poker, especially during the transition to online formats due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Here is a list of his notable achievements in online poker:

• 2020. WSOP Online on GGPoker: Finished in 168th place in the $1,000 No-Limit Hold’em event (Event #52) for $2476;
• August 2020. WSOP Online: Participated in several events, demonstrating his skills in various formats;
• January 2021. WPT Montreal Online: Won the No Limit Hold’em High Roller for $71,607;
• During Pandemic (2020). Focused on online poker and reportedly won about $1 million playing various cash games and high-stakes tournaments.
