Jason Mo is one of the best No-Limit hold’em heads-up players, having taken that skill to bag him over $2 million in tournament winnings. He became a very controversial and outspoken figure, making frequent appearances on Joey Ingram’s Poker Life podcast and was a regular in the Two Plus Two forums.
Carrycakes
Known by his online poker moniker “carrycakes” or his controversial Twitter account “@cuntycakes”, Jason Mo made the climb of the poker stakes at a modest level. His first recorded cash came in 2010 when he played the $5,180 World Series of Poker Circuit Championship Event in his town of St. Louis. He would go on to finish second in that event, bagging a tidy sum of $122,502 and making himself a prominent member of the mid-to-high-stakes MTT poker scene.
Close but No Cigar
He would next play at the famous Aussie Millions tournament, cashing in the 2011 Main Event for $14,835 before he began his World Series of Poker bracelet hunt. He has come insanely close to getting his hands on the highly vaunted golden bracelet. Between 2012 and 2014 he notched two second-place finishes, falling to famous poker pros Brian Hastings and Vanessa Selbst in a Heads Up and Mix-Max format respectively. After coming this close, Mo began to look toward the more global poker scene, playing in events like the European Poker Tour Barcelona, the World Poker Tour at WPT National Philippines, and the Asia Pacific Poker Tour in Macau.
“JMO Sends His Regards”
This is when Mo made one of his more controversial poker moments, as he claimed that 50,000 chips were missing from his stack at the PokerStars EPT Barcelona stop. Allegedly, PokerStars claimed that no cameras were in use because they were too expensive, leading to Mo sending a tweet reading: “I would likely pony up a large amount to give a swift kick in the nuts and say “jmo sends his regards :)”.
This tweet, which was sent to PokerStars Head of Communications Lee Jones, saw his account locked for three days. Despite being a love-or-hate figure in the poker world, his success could not be denied. He has won a World Poker Tour High Roller event in the Philippines for $147,000, an Asian Pacific Poker Tour Main Event in Seoul for $151,000 and came 5th in the 2015 Aussie Millions Championship for $497,000.
Jason Mo Made His Mark
Jason cemented himself as one of the most talented real money poker players of his generation, and his frequent company with Doug “WCGRider” Polk shows that he is part of that golden group who cut their teeth in the online poker rooms. Whether it was crushing online cash games or winning huge tournaments across Asia, Jason has certainly made his mark in poker.
