Barney Boatman is a British professional poker player and author. He is best known for winning the World Series of Poker Main Event in 1990.

Barney was born in London, England in 1956. He learned to play poker as a child and started playing casino games at the age of 20. Barney Boatman Biography

Boatman played poker at home with friends and later taught his brother Ross how to play. They began attending poker tournaments together at the Vic establishment, where he won the first tournament he entered for 2,000 pounds. Together they went to a private poker game hosted by Joe Beavers and Ram Vaswani, with whom they became good friends. The four became known as the “Hendon Mafia” in later years. Together, they were invited by Nick Sheremeta to participate in the new television series Late Night Poker.

Boatman first played in a World Series of Poker tournament in 2000 in a $3,000 no-limit hold ’em event. Four days later, he played in the $10,000 No-Limit Hold’em Main Event, finishing in 16th place. Here at the 2013 WSOP, Boatman beat 2,247 entrants to win Event #49, $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em. In 2015, Boatman won another bracelet at the World Series Of Poker Europe in Berlin, Germany. He won Event #7, €550 Pot Limit Omaha for €54,725. He also starred in his own TV series, Barney’s Home Games, where he attended home poker games across the UK.
