She holds the titles of Woman FIDE Master (WFM) in chess and has achieved a peak rating of 2092. Botez has an impressive record, being a five-time Canadian girls’ national champion and a one-time US girls’ national champion.

Born to Romanian immigrant parents, Alexandra Botez originally hails from Dallas (Texas, US) but was brought up in Vancouver (British Columbia, Canada). She has a younger sister as well. Her passion for chess was ignited by her father, who introduced her to the game and began training at the age of 6. As her skills developed, she joined the Romanian Community Centre chess club Golden Knights. She has represented Canada in three Women’s Chess Olympiads held in 2012, 2014, and 2016.
