As a student, Alex was an accomplished athlete, playing football, lacrosse, and hockey in high school. He earned all-conference honours in football his senior year. After high school, Foxen attended Boston College, where he played tight end for the Boston College Eagles football team. However, during his college football career, he spent much of his playing time on the bench. Foxen graduated from Boston College in 2014 at the age of 23. It was around this time that he began to seriously pursue poker, having previously only played casually online. Foxen has said that his background in sports, especially football, helped shape his mental approach to the game of poker, as he had to learn to control his emotional responses.

Alex Foxen began his poker career in 2014 after graduating from Boston College. He began playing in online poker tournaments on PokerStars under the pseudonym “bigfox86” and earned $1.76 million – an amazing result even among pro players.

In 2016, Foxen switched to live poker tournaments, starting with small events with buy-ins between $200 and $500 and moving on to larger tournaments. His first major live tournament cash came in May 2012 when he won a WSOP Circuit event in New Orleans for $22,421.
