WSOPE 2024 – King’s Casino Rozvadov in the Spotlight Once Again

The World Series of Poker Europe (WSOPE) has grown into one of the premier live poker events in the world, attracting the best players year after year. Since its inception in 2007, the WSOPE has carved out its unique identity, bringing the glitz and glamour of poker outside Las Vegas and into Europe’s most iconic casino venue, King’s Resort Rozvadov.

As we look ahead to the 2024 edition of this prestigious tournament, it’s already shaping up to be one for the history books, especially with a historic first for Polish poker in this series!

A Historic Moment for Poland at WSOPE 2024

The 2024 WSOPE kicked off with a bang as the €350 No-Limit Hold’em (NLH) Opener event saw an impressive 3,509 entries. Among this massive field of hopefuls, Przemysław Szymanski emerged victorious, securing the first-ever WSOPE bracelet for Poland!

WSOPE Przemysław Szymanski

Szymanski’s victory was more than just a personal achievement — it marked a significant moment for Polish poker. He won the first WSOPE bracelet for Poland and took home an impressive €105,000 in prize money and earned a ticket to the prestigious Main Event, later next week. This victory is just the second time a Polish player has won a WSOP live event bracelet, making it a remarkable feat for the country’s poker community.

In addition to the massive start for Poland, it’s another Pole who is in top shape to take another bracelet home for his country as Tomasz Kozub is leading the 8 remaining players in the  €550 PL Omaha 8-max, all chasing that first prize of €56,100. A whopping total of 642 entries were made during this event.

A Look Back: The Growth of WSOPE

The WSOPE has come a long way since its inaugural event in 2007, which was held in London. At that time, the WSOPE was the first major expansion of the World Series of Poker brand outside the United States, allowing European players to compete for the coveted WSOP bracelet without travelling to Las Vegas. From there, the WSOPE quickly established itself as a key event in the poker world, with players from all over the globe being eager to participate.

The tournament has changed venues several times over the years, moving from London to Cannes, Enghien-les-Bains, and Berlin before finding its current home at King’s Casino in Rozvadov, Czech Republic. The shift to Rozvadov in 2017 marked the beginning of a new era for the WSOPE, with King’s Casino becoming a central hub for European poker. Known for hosting large-scale poker events, King’s Casino has continued to attract record-breaking numbers of participants, and the WSOPE has become one of the highlights of the poker calendar.

What to Expect from WSOPE 2024

With the excitement of the Opener event behind us, all eyes are now on the rest of the WSOPE 2024 schedule. This year promises to be another thrilling edition of the series, with a wide range of events catering to all levels of players. As always, the highlight of the series will be the €10,350 Main Event, where the best poker players in the world will compete for millions of euros in prize money and the prestigious WSOPE Main Event bracelet.

WSOPE Max Neugebauer

Last year’s Main Event was a record-breaker, with 817 entries and former professional basketball player Max Neugebauer taking home the top prize of €1.5 million. With the popularity of the WSOPE continuing to grow, many expect this year’s Main Event to surpass that number, including Federico Brunato who had announced already over 400 players qualified for the opening flight of this event.

Other notable events on the schedule include high-stakes tournaments such as the €25,000 Platinum High Roller and the €50,000 Diamond High Roller, both of which are sure to draw poker’s biggest names.

The Legacy of the WSOPE

The WSOPE has produced some of the most memorable moments in poker history. From Annette Obrestad’s record-breaking win at the age of 18 in the very first WSOPE Main Event in 2007 to Phil Hellmuth’s incredible victory in 2012, which made him the only player to win both the WSOP and WSOPE Main Events.

Players from around the world have chased the dream of winning a WSOP bracelet on European soil, and each year the WSOPE continues to solidify its reputation as a must-attend event for the poker elite. Where the WSOP Online is drawing to a close on GGPoker, many players will find their way to Rozvadov now, expecting it to go out of proportion this time around!
