The World Series of Poker (WSOP) has gone European this week for the international version of the biggest live poker festival on the planet. Poker players from around the world have descended on King’s Casino, Rozvodov in the Czech Republic for the chance to win bracelets.
There are 15 events planned across the three-week festival including short deck games, mixed games, and lots of no limit hold ‘em. The series is now in the wind down phase, with the Main Event just kicking off today with Day 1a.
There are €5,000,000 guaranteed for the Main, which means they need more than 500 entries to cover the guarantee. Day 1a alone saw 442 entries before registration was closed so it looks like they’ll have no trouble keeping their promises for prizes.

Big names in the field

There were a few big names in play for the opening day, including the Las Vegas Main Event champion, Espen Jorstad. Jorstad was sitting above his starting stack mid-way through the opening day of play, so he’s looking like he could have another solid run in this one.
Aside from the reigning Main Event champion, there are a few other notables in the game so far. UK legend Barny Boatman is in action, but will need to spin his stack back up after being nearly felted by Nacho Barbero near the start of Level 4.
A few other notable names are trying their hand today in the opening flight of the WSOP-E Main Event. Paulina Loeliger is near the top of the counts with almost 300k before the dinner break. Thomas Hueber and Anton Morgenstern also managed to stack up top ten stacks before the dinner break.
Among the other players in action on the first starting day were Dario Sammartino, Jack Sinclair, Ana Marquez, Patrik Antonius, Maria Lampropulos, Jessica Teusl, and Manig Loeser.
Players who didn’t get into the game for this opening flight will still have a chance for Main Event glory. Right now there is a second flight beeing played started at noon local time, and entries for both starting days will be open until about 10:30 pm local time, at the end of Level 13.
More events
The Main Event isn’t the only thing going on in Rozvodov right now, with 15 events across the whole festival. There are several games already in the books with a few players bagging bracelets already. Among the notables who have already added to their jewelry collection were Paul Phua, who added to his $26 million in wins by bagging the win in the Platinum High Roller event this week. German player Max Kruse also booked his first bracelet this week in the six-max Event #7.
There is still a lot of poker to play at WSOP-E, with the Main Event still registering, and three more events on the schedule before the festival comes to an end. Upcoming events outside the Main Event include WSOPE Event #13: PLO/NLH Mixed, WSOPE Event #14: No-Limit Hold’em Bounty Hunter, and WSOPE Event #15: No-Limit Hold’em Turbo Freezeout.
