WSOP 2021 Field Size Revealed

Now that the final late registrations are over and done with the numbers, and more importantly the pay outs, for the $10,000 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event have been revealed.

The Main Event has been running for a week now and when all of the numbers have been totted up, we can see that in all, 6,650 players entered the 2021 WSOP Main Event each putting in the $10,000 buy in.

Day 2CEF began with 1,810 players starting out with 915 moving on to Day 3 where everyone left in, which at the time of writing is 2,355 players, is at last combined into one.

The 1,000 players still standing at the time of the event’s climax will walk away with at least $15,000, and the final 63 will all make at least six figure pay outs of $113,800.

The World Series of Poker started out in 1969 and the 2021 renewal has made the 10th largest field in the tournament’s 52 year history.

The WSOP Main Event field size record was set in 2006 when 8,773 people entered.

Given all that has happened over the past two years, and the WSOP requiring proof of Covid vaccinations, these are pretty decent numbers for the 2021 WSOP which is sponsored by GGPoker.

In all there were six starting flights after two additional starting flights were added to what was originally supposed to be four in order to allow international players to jet in to Sin City after the US government relaxed travel restrictions on the 8th of November.

With a $62,011,250 prize pool, the winner will collect $8 million which is almost twice as much as the runner up who will walk away with $4.3 million before tax.

WSOP 2021 Final Table Pay Outs

The final table will pay out as follows:

Finishing PositionPrize
1st$8,000,000
2nd$4,300,000
3rd$3,000,000
4th$2,300,000
5th$1,800,000
6th$1,400,000
7th$1,225,000
8th$1,100,000
9th$1,000,000

One player who wont be getting a slice of the pay outs is poker legend Doyle Brunson who failed to make the money at this year’s WSOP Main Event after being eliminated on Day 2abc.

The 88 year old ten time WSOP bracelet winner took his seat at PokerGO feature table along with Chau Nguyen and Jason Koon.

He wasn’t to see Day 3 however after going all in with AC, 3D which was met with AS and QS which ultimately cost him the last of his remaining chips.

Hopefully this isn’t the last time we see the Texas Dolly enter the Main Event, a tourney he won in both 1976 and 1977, here at the World Series of Poker.

Brunson wasn’t alone in seeing his event come to an end. Numerous other previous winners busted including 2019 main event champion Hossein Ensan, 1983 winner Tom McEvoy, 1998 champion Scotty Nguyen, and 2013 champion Ryan Riess.

Erik Seidel, Asi Moshe, Adam Friedman, Brandon Adams, Nathan Gamble, and David Baker were all also eliminated.

Liv Boeree Flies In to Las Vegas

One player who took full advantage of the lifting of the travel ban in the US was British former pro Liv Boeree, even if she did admit to being a little rusty at the felt.

Boeree managed to bag up 90,000 despite claiming not to ‘remember how to play’ after spending such a long time not playing.

Boeree wasn’t the only big name heading into Day 3 with a sizeable stack, Martin Jacobson, Matt Glantz, Chris Moneymaker, Qui Nguyen, Robert Mizrachi, Ted Forrest, Daniel Lowery, Scott Blumstein, Joe Hachem, Mustapha Kanit and Barry Greenstein all remain in the hunt and will all be back for more at 11AM local time.

In all, there are 2,362 players still in with blinds currently at 1,200-2,400.
