WPT Global’s $500,000 GTD WPT500 Mexico City event to combine Online and Live poker!

There can be no better demonstration of the mutually beneficial relationship between real money online poker and live poker than an event that spans both formats – which, of course, gives players literally the best of both worlds.    

As a sign of the times, WPT Global – in a first for this excellent online operator – is hosting their first combined online AND live tournament! Players can choose to start the $550 buy-in, $500,000 GTD WPT500 Mexico City event online, then finish live at the actual venue.  

WPT Global was launched as recently as last year as the online platform of the famous World Poker Tour (WPT), and this special event is a natural culmination of poker synergy that gives would-be champions the chance to experience the excitement of the WPT. This kind of event affords the poker eco-system a significant new dimension, and we’re sure to see more examples of Day 1 online poker and Day 2 live poker in the future. 

The WPT500 Mexico City tournament is exclusive to WPT Global online players, with $500 + $50 Day 1 flights starting on 9 April. Don’t forget that this site strives to make big money poker accessible to recreational players (who are the beating heart of poker), so there’s a user-friendly satellite set-up available that means you can win your way to Mexico City for a mere $5 outlay!

How it works

  • Players may choose to play Day 1 either live at the Fronton, Mexico City venue or online – only at WPT Global. 
  • Each Day 1 Flight plays until 12.5% of the field remains, and these players qualify for Day 2. 
  • All Day 2 qualifiers are guaranteed in the money.  
  • All players who qualify for Day 2 online will have a $1,000 travel/expenses stipend paid into their WPT Global account. 
  • Players can receive only one $1,000 stipend regardless of how many Day 1 Flights are played.  
  • All players make it to Day 2, whether via a live or online Day 1 Flight, will play Day 2 to a finish at Fronton, Mexico City on 31 May, 2023. 
  • Day 1 Flights run online on WPT Global from 9 April until 21 May, 2023. 
  • This is a Best Stack Forward event, allowing players to take part in multiple online Day 1 Flights. 

Note that each smaller stack is cashed out as a Day 2 min-cash, with your buy-in credited to your WPT Global account within 72 hours of earning your Day 2 seat. The remainder of the min-cash will be credited after registration for all flights has closed. 

Live WPT Mystery Bounty 

The so-called mystery bounty is a relatively new addition to the poker scene, and a $5,000 buy-in WPT Mystery Bounty at Fronton in Mexico City is scheduled for 30-31 May, being open exclusively to WPT Global members. As with the main event, WPT Global is offering online satellites starting at just $5 (running until 21 May).  

Each tournament entry will be split in half, with 50% going to the prize pool and 50% to the Mystery Bounty pool. The minimum bounty is $1,000, and the top bounty will depend on the number of runners: $25,000 with 40-59 players, $50,000 with 60-99 and $100,000 with 100 or more. Meanwhile, an extra $50,000 in Mystery Bounties will be added by WPT Global, and bounties will be placed on WPT Global Ambassadors and Influencers – at least one of these additional bounties will start at every table!
