The World Poker Tour (WPT) Returns to Choctaw Casino (April 28 – May 16)

The World Poker Tour (WPT) announced its Main Tour will return to the Choctaw Casino & Resort in Durant, Oklahoma with a massive schedule of 73 events across 19 days from April 28 to May 16.

The schedule features something for everyone with a wide variety of games including No-Limit Hold’em, Pot-Limit Omaha, Big O, and mixed game events with buy-ins starting out at a reasonable $130 for many of the events and satellites.

The highlight of the festival will come in the middle of May with the WPT Choctaw $3,800 Championship to kick off on May 13.

“WPT joins us in our shared goal to provide the best poker tournament experience possible,” said Bob Barnes, Table Games Manager at Choctaw Casino & Resort – Durant. “We have seen intense interest in our WPT events, and I am confident that this one will be no different.”

$2 Million GTD Championship Event

The WPT Championship Event is always something special with the winner not only collecting a ton of cash but also rewarded with their name etched onto the legendary Mike Sexton WPT Champions Cup.

The WPT Choctaw Championship is expected a banner crowd thanks to the lofty $2 million guarantee slapped on the event. This guarantee is expected to be merely a placeholder as the last time the WPT visited Choctaw Casino in July 2021, the event attracted a whopping 964 entries to generate a massive $3,272,780 prize pool.

Adedapo Ajayi came out on top of this event after defeating Viet Vo heads-up to win the $558,610 top prize.

This year’s Main Event features a similar structure with the only difference being the buy-in has increased from $3,700 to $3,800. The tournament boasts two opening flights on May 13-14 where players can re-enter until late registration closes until the start of Level 9. Surviving players will then compete for two more days on May 15-16 until the action is down to a final table of six players.

The players will then have a small break with the final table scheduled to play down to a winner at the state-of-the-art HyperX Sports Arena, located at the heart of the infamous Las Vegas strip at the Luxor Hotel & Casino. The event will then be televised later in the year on Bally Sports.

Side Events & More

In addition to the Main Event, the WPT Choctaw will feature 72 other side events and tournaments. This means that Choctaw Casino will be a non-stop hotbed of poker action for nearly three weeks!

Event #20: $200 Super Seniors No-Limit Hold’em (60+) – May 3
Event #25: $300 Mammoth No-Limit Hold’em ($200K GTD) – May 4 – 7
Event #35: $500 No-Limit Hold’em ($200K GTD) – May 7
Event #45: $500 Seniors Championship (50+; $50K GTD) – May 9
Event #50: $500 Pot-Limit Omaha Championship ($50K GTD) – May 10-11
Event #55: $1,100 No-Limit Hold’em ($300K GTD) – May 11-13

Players will also be competing for WPT Player of the Festival with most side events included in the leaderboard calculations. The player that wins the leaderboard will be awarded an additional $1,100 WPT Prime Passport on top of whatever they won in the events they cashed.

WPT Choctaw History

The WPT has hosted its Main Tour six times dating back to 2015 when Jason Brin navigated a field of 1,175 entries in the Main Event to win the $667,575 top prize. Other big WPT Choctaw Main Event winners over the years included James Mackey, Jay Lee, Brady Hollman, Craig Varnell, and most recently Adedapo Ajayi.

Meanwhile, the WPTDeepStacks (WPTDS) visited Choctaw for the first time last year when Jared Ward defeated a field of 545 entries to win the inaugural WPTDS Choctaw $1,100 Main Event for $102,220.
