Who You Gonna Call? ACR Poker Bans Ghosting in Security Update

Online poker continues to evolve and grow, not just in players but also in terms of cash prizes. The money has never been higher, and the stakes continue to grow. This has led to a lot of bad actors taking advantage on a lot of sites in high EV spots.

The spotlight was shone on Ghosting through the Bryn Kenney cheating scandal, where he and his stable would actively Ghost other members through software like Teamviewer and more in order to gain the most edge in deep tournament spots. The biggest online poker operators have stayed completely silent in regards to making active and sweeping changes, and this extends beyond Ghosting and into other cheating methods like collusion, RTA (Real-Time Assistance) and more. This has all changed with a recent announcement from ACR Poker

Virtual Machines 86’d on the ACR Poker Menu

ACR Poker became the first online poker operator to come out with a sweeping statement against the use of virtual machines. This is a move that was triggered by the discovery of a collection of players who were using these tools in games on the site to gain a higher edge in big EV spots. While some poker players have claimed to use tools like Virtual Machines and Teamviewer for training reasons, the risk of malpractice has led ACR to take measured action and 86 them entirely.

The ban extends past virtual machines – if you pay attention to ACR Poker’s new T&Cs, they also ban the use of real-time screen-sharing tools and any device that could attempt to get past the platform’s security measures. Players who are found to breach this will be issued one warning, and then subsequent actions could lead to suspensions, bans and funds withheld.

A PR Move or Commitment to Player Security?

ACR Poker has been going through a lot of change recently, introducing a new client and rebranding. They continued to hold the Venom, which is quickly becoming the biggest online poker tournament with each passing year. They are a poker site with momentum, as PokerStars lags behind and GGPoker has seemingly invested in the live poker felt as much as the online one recently.

The platform is using AI to detect any form of malpractice, and a team of gaming integrity specialists is working around the clock. – it’s safe to say that ACR CEO Phil Nagy is taking some kind of measures to improve player security on ACR; the real question is whether these are solid movements or a flavor of the month to gain popularity in a competitive online poker market.

An investigation conducted recently banned eight player accounts for collusion, with an additional 25 accounts banned that were linked to the primary offenders. ACR reallocated a confiscated amount of $184,000 and corrected the tournament outcomes to ensure fairness.

Moneymaker Gives Us His 2 Cents

ACR Team Pro Chris Moneymaker put his thoughts in: “I’m sad that we have to engage in this high-tech game of Whack a Mole, but it’s important for us to try to stay ahead of the bad guys. I’ve been playing online poker for more than 20 years now, and just as the cheaters get more sophisticated, so have the poker rooms. ACR invests heavily in technology and people to deliver as fair a game as any of the major sites.”
