What The Lifting Of US Travel Restrictions Means For Your WSOP 2021 Plans

If you weren’t already aware, the United States will reopen its doors to fully vaccinated international travelers in early November. The lifting of travel restrictions will apply to those flying in by air from 33 countries including China, India, Brazil, South Africa and most of Europe.

This means that, from Monday November the 8th, the US will finally ease their Covid-19 travel ban on arrivals from the United Kingdom and the EU making taking part in this year’s World Series of Poker (WSOP) a distinct possibility which is great news for those that were previously restricted to online poker WSOP tourneys.

So long as they can prove their vaccinations, at least one of which must be from a US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved source and show a negative Covid test result within the past 72 hours, the United States will allow in air travelers from the 26 European Schengen countries which includes France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland and Greece, as well as visitors from Great Britain and Ireland.

Until the 8th, however, the current restrictions will remain in place meaning there is no entry for any non US citizens that have been in any of the above listed countries within the past 14 days.

Fully vaccinated simply means that it has been at least 14 days since your second Pfizer, AstraZeneca, and Moderna jab or from dose one of Johnson & Johnson shot.

Alternatively, travellers that have an Emergency Use Listing approved vaccine such as AstraZeneca as issued by the World Health Organization (WHO) will be permitted entry.

Take Part In The WSOP 2021

The easing of travel restrictions makes playing in this year’s WSOP far more likely for poker players from around the world.

With aeroplane flights opening up again on Monday November the 8th, players from Europe could, theoretically at least, make it to Las Vegas by November 9th giving them almost two weeks of play left to enjoy.

Flights for the Main Event also begin that week making participation in the most prestigious event in poker a possibility which should make the satellites to the WSOP, where this week the Texas Dolly Doyle Brunson made a welcome return, that are available at one of the best online poker sites around GGPoker even more appealing than normal.

Getting into America may be one thing, but there are further steps required for any one wanting to take part and play some Texas Hold’em in this year’s Series.

All players are required to prove their vaccinations against COVID-19 to WSOP staff through an official CLEAR mobile app and Health Pass though which they can share an image of their vaccination card.

After that, you are free to find one of the action filled poker rooms and get involved with WSOP 2021.

Two New Main Event Day 1s Added

The announcement by the United States government has led to the World Series organisers making some amendments to the WSOP schedule in order to give incoming international players the opportunity to get invloved.

Two new day 1s have been added to the main event meaning day 1E will now take place on November the 8th with Day 1F taking place the following day which will coincide with Days 2A, 2B and 2D where all of the players left over from the opening days’ runs will be merged together. Days 2C, 2E and 2C will take place on November the 10th and Day three will now begin on Thursday November the 11th, with Days 4-7 both dropping back a day also.

A rest day had originally been scheduled for November the 15th, but this has now been scrapped to allow the Main Event’s final table to begin on schedule on November the 16th.
