The World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) is back, and if you thought last year was big, this year’s edition is taking things to a whole new level. We’re talking over $80 million in guaranteed prize pools — enough to make even the most seasoned pros clear their schedules.
Running from September 8th to October 2nd on PokerStars, WCOOP 2024 is where the online poker world stops and stares.
It’s not just about bragging rights, either. The Main Events, which kick off on September 29th, offer some seriously eye-watering guarantees. Whether you’re diving into the $109, $1,050, or the High-Roller $10,300 event, the stakes are sky-high:
Event | Buy-In | GTD |
---|---|---|
Main Event-L | $109 | $2,500,000 |
Main Event-M | $1,050 | $3,500,000 |
Main Event-H | $10,300 | $5,000,000 |
WCOOP 2024: Opening Day Highlights
At this point, we can safely say that WCOOP’s first day didn’t disappoint, with several tournaments concluding and some big names making their presence felt. Here are the standout moments from Day 1:
Team Akkari Takes the Early Lead
Right out of the gate, Team Akkari jumped to the top of the WCOOP League leaderboard, amassing 85 points on the first day. Brazilian pro Laurie “LaliTournier” Tournier contributed to the team’s surge with an eighth-place finish in the $530 NLH Progressive Knockout event. Her deep run not only boosted Team Akkari’s standings but also set the tone for the rest of the series.
Team Tonkaaaa wasn’t far behind, sitting just 10 points back. With Niklas “Lena900” Astedt finishing seventh in the $109 NLHE Turbo Progressive Knockout, Tonkaaaa’s crew is sure to stay in the hunt as the series progresses.
Team Spraggy Draws a Blank
It wasn’t all sunshine for everyone on Day 1. Team Spraggy, captained by fan favorite Benjamin “Spraggy” Spragg, had a rough start and ended up with zero points on the board.

Despite having talented players like Simon “C. Darwin2” Mattsson and Kelvin “kelvin_fp” Kerber in their ranks, the team will need to regroup and refocus if they want to make a comeback in the WCOOP League.
Poland’s “Tr!pleeeee” Snags a Title
One of the biggest individual stories from Day 1 came courtesy of Poland’s “Tr!pleeeee,” who took down the WCOOP 07-H: $530 NLHE Turbo PKO.
What to Watch for on September 10th
WCOOP’s momentum continues into September 10th, with another action-packed day of events. Here are a couple of key tournaments on the schedule:
- WCOOP 13-L: $11 NLHE [8-Max], $60K GTD – a perfect low-stakes option for players looking to get in on the WCOOP action.
- WCOOP 15-M: $215 NLHE [7-Max, Progressive KO], $400K GTD – for bounty hunters, this one is set to be a major draw, with plenty of knockouts up for grabs.
With events for every bankroll and a variety of poker formats, WCOOP 2024 is proving, once again, why it’s the must-play series. And remember, this is just the beginning — there’s a whole lot more poker to be played!
