Tommy Le Tops The PLO All Time Money List With WSOP Win

We have reached day 27 and event 45 of the 2021 World Series of Poker (WSOP) which saw a change at the top of the Pot Limit Omaha all time money list.

America’s Tommy Le took down his second $10,000 Pot Limit Omaha Championship title after he saw off Jordan Spurlin heads-up to win the top prize of $746,477.

Le’s victory was his second in four years after he won the same event in 2017 and helps to establish him as one of the best Pot Limit Omaha tournament players in the world.

So much so in fact, that the win takes him to the very top of the all time real money poker list for Pot Limit Omaha games.

This was Le’s seventh career Pot Limit Omaha tournament title and means that he has overtaken Stephen Chidwick in the PLO all time money list with $3,249,275 in PLO winnings, beating Chidwick’s $2.5 million.

Le is now one of the best PLO tournament players in the history of WSOP, which this year is sponsored by GGPoker, where he has a very impressive record.

He has 24 career PLO cashes in total, with 15 of those happening at the World Series where he has also made nine final tables, all of those coming in Pot Limit Omaha events.

These includes his dual bracelet wins as well as runner up finishes in both this year’s $1,500 buy in PLO event and the 2016 $25,000 buy in PLO high roller.

Pot Limit Omaha is the most popular form of Omaha Poker and is played with four hole cards instead of two and players must make the best possible five card hand constructed from a combination of two of their hole cards and three of the community cards.

In Pot Limit Omaha the maximum a player can bet is the amount that is in the pot and is available to play at the WSOP sponsors GGPoker.

Final Table & Heads Up

The final day of this event started with Le leading just five remaining players following four time WSOP winner Eli Elezra’s elimination in sixth place before the day had begun.

The first of these to go was two time WSOP bracelet winner Jeremy Ausmus who walked away with $168,689 after his two pair failed to beat Sunset Casino owner and former poker pro Chris Sandrock’s top set, leaving Sandrock second in the chips.

Play continued for another two hours with chip stacks see sawing regularly before we lost another, Artem Maskimov, who was eliminated in fourth place for $232,236.

Chris Sandrock was the next to fall taking $324,800 with him as he went, leaving Tommy Le and Jordan Spurlin heads up with the latter holding a million chip lead.

That lead didn’t last too long however and by the time the final hand of the tournament was dealt, Le had taken full control when he rivered a full house after Spurlin had gone all in on the flop with bottom pair.

Back In Action

After his win, Californian Le said;

“I feel like I just won a bracelet and it’s the best feeling in the world. It’s amazing, I love the WSOP and come every year. I think it’s an awesome event and I really play because I love the game”.

Le is back in PLO action today, appearing in the Event #53: High Roller Pot Limit Omaha (8-Handed) where Eric Kurtzman finished day one with a big chip lead as he looks to earn his first World Series of Poker bracelet.

Le added,

“I’m always confident, I’ll play a $600 at the Venetian, and I’ll play a $25K or a $50K at the WSOP. I just love the game. When I play, I’m always confident in my decisions. I try not to second guess myself. Win or lose, I never walk away feeling like I made a mistake or with any regrets. I leave that all out on the felt when I play.”

Shaun Deeb is also the field and is looking to win the PLO High Roller for the second time after winning it in 2018, while defending champion Stephen Chidwick is also in the running and will look to reclaim top spot in the all time Pot Limit Omaha money list, only a matter of days after losing it.
