Swede wins EPT Online twice in a row

Swedish player WhatIfGod achieved a very special feat on PokerStars this week. He won the EPT Online Main Event for the second time in a row, after already being victorious last year.

The player from Sweden, who plays under the pseudonym WhatIfGod, won the $5,200 Main Event for the second year in a row. The 2020 winner bested 402 entrants to win over $360,000 in prize money and defend his title.

With a starting field of 402 the tournament had a total prize pool of $2,010,000, which was split among the top 48 players.

At the final table, WhatIfGod dominated play almost from start to finish. This table was streamed with the cards face up on Twitch and Youtube. WhatIfGod, came into the nine-handed final table in third place on the leaderboard and took the lead in Level 32, eliminating PokerStars Ambassador Benjamin “bencb789” Rolle in seventh place. WhatIfGod then extended his lead by eliminating Bruno “great dant” Volkmann in sixth place and Christian “WATnlos” Rudolph in third.

Playing heads-up he faced PokerStars ambassador Ramon Colillas. Colillas briefly took the lead in the heads-up, but WhatIfGod won a flip with fives against ace-queen and was back in the running for the title. Finally, WhatIfGod got all-in with a runner-runner flush on the river against Colillas’ two-pair. After winning the showdown, the title defense was perfect.

The Swede is now only the third player to win two EPT Main Events. The other two players were Vicky Coren-Mitchell and Mikalai Pobal.

The conclusion of the Main Event marked the end of the EPT Online 2021 series, which took place on PokerStars from 8 to 21 December. The festival comprised a total of 72 tournaments, including 34 regular events. 34 mini-events and four side events.

From the Christmas days onwards, the Winter Series will be held on PokerStars. This tournament series guarantees a total of over 50 million dollars until January. At the same time, players can take part in post-Christmas tournament series on GGPoker and partypoker. At GGPoker, a total of 100 million dollars is guaranteed.
