The 2023 Super High Roller Bowl wrapped up recently at PokerGO Studio in Las Vegas and, after two days of play, Isaac Haxton topped an elite field of talent to win over $2 million.
Play started on September 29 with 20 high rollers putting up $300,000. Among the starting field was 2022 Super High Roller Bowl champion Daniel Negreanu who did enough to make it through the first day of play.
Also in the mix and making their presence known during the early offing was Stephen Chidwick who’d won the PokerGO Poker Masters purple jacket just days before. Clearly in form, Chidwick also made it through the first flight as one of the chip leaders and that momentum carried him through to the final table.
Also flying high after Day 1 were 2022 Super High Roller Bowl runner-up Nick Petrangelo, Andrew Lichtenberger, and the aforementioned Haxton. This stellar cast was joined by the likes of Jason Koon and Cary Katz to set up a glittering end to Super High Roller Bowl VIII.
All-Star Cast Compete for Super High Roller Bowl Crown
All eyes were on Negreanu as the second day started. Although he had one of the smallest stacks, Negreanu was defending champion and almost got back into contention with a perfectly timed trap.
The action folded around to Negreanu who limped from the small blind with A♥ Q♣. Based on what we know now, the limp was clearly a ploy to induce a raise from Haxton. The trap worked asHaxton moved all-in with A♠ 4♣. Negreanu called but had to watch in disbelief as the board ran out 4♥ 5♥ 7♥ A♦ 2♠.

Place | Player Name | Winning Amount |
---|---|---|
1 | Isaac Haxton | $2,760,000 |
2 | Andrew Lichtenberger | $1,608,000 |
3 | Stephen Chidwick | $960,000 |
4 | Jason Koon | $600,000 |
With that, the defending champ was sent to the rail in eighth place and Haxton was now the man to beat. Andrew Lichtenberger took up the challenge of trying to topple Haxton and did a fine job of it. He eliminated four of the remaining seven players to put himself ahead of Haxton heads-up.
Haxton Topples Unlucky Lichtenberger
Lichtenberger was on a roll having won a Poker Masters title this year and he almost got the win after Haxton committed his chips with A♠ 7♠ on a 3♦ 3♠ 2♠ flop. Lichtenberger called with pocket kings but his lead was snatched away when the Q♠ landed on the turn. The 6♣ completed the board and left Lichtenberger on fumes.
Knowing he was out of options, Lichtenberger was all-in with 9♦ 3♦ the very next hand. It cost Haxton very little to call, so he put the chips in with 10♦ 7♣. The board missed both players and, with that, the 2023 Super High Roller Bowl was over.
Isaac Haxton had overcome a tough line-up to win another poker title, but that’s what he’s done consistently over the years. For his latest efforts, the American pro banked $2.7 million to take his live tournament earnings over the $40 million mark.
