Slaaasch Splashes 888poker Super Whale for $79,382

If this past weekend’s $500k Super Whale is a sign, the upcoming Super XL tournament series on 888poker is going to be a record-setter.

With a boosted $500,000 guarantee and still the same $320 buy-in, the special edition of the 888poker Whale brought a massive 1,188 players and 531 rebuys out to the tables.

The enormous prize pool not only eclipsed the guarantee, it left over $200,000 to split between the final three finishers.

Once a deal was agreed upon heads-up the two final players each scored over $74k and the ultimate winner, Slaaasch from Germany, pocketed just slightly under $80k.

Another Big Score for ZDamian

Slaaasch’s heads-up opponent, Polish regular ZDamian, knows what it’s like to run deep in an 888 event.

ZDamian likes his whales.

As a former winner of both the Whale and the Baby Whale he was obviously in his comfort zone and nearly made the most of it again.

He did have the chip lead heads-up when the deal was made so got a larger cut at first. But just after making the deal ZDamian lost most of his stack with top pair to Slaaasch’s set of 7s and then shoved 6BB with K9 only to lose to A6.

With the $10k left to play for going to the German he ultimately took just a bit less than the winner. Romanian Alexxv14 finished third for $48,991, making it a very profitable day for all of the Top 3. 

With that massive tournament building momentum things are shaping up well for the start of the 5th edition of the 888poker Super XL Series tomorrow.

With 60+ events and $5m guaranteed it will be the biggest Super XL yet. Low buy-in qualifiers are already underway for many events.
