‘Retired’ Fedor Holz Runs Over EPT Barcelona €50k SHR to Win €1.3m

Fedor Holz toyed with the idea of retiring from poker after an exceptional WSOP this summer but that didn’t stop him from making the trip to EPT Barcelona and taking down the €50m Super High Roller for €1.3m today.

The win is just the latest in an unparalleled hot streak that now includes over $16 million in 2016 alone.

Fedor Holz demolished a nine-player final table that included Timothy Adams, Sylvain Loosli and Erik Seidel. He also edged noted pro Sam Greenwood after entering heads-up play relatively even.

Holz Hot Streak Reaching Historic Proportions

Despite the victory, Holz maintained that he’s not going to be playing that much in the near future.

He told EPT commentator Joe Stapleton as much in the winner’s interview.

“I come out once every three months and play a little,” he said.

“Now it’s time to go out and enjoy the beach.”

Holz is now up to nearly $20 million in lifetime live tournament earnings but it’s the last year that has truly captured the imagination of the poker world.

Here’s a look at his three biggest scores, which account for $11.8m alone, in the last year:

• 1st Place — WSOP $111k Super High Roller — $4.9m
• 2nd Place — Aria Super High Roller Bowl — $3.5m
• 1st Place — Triton Super High Roller — $3.4m

Despite starting with nine players — which is unusual for a EPT SHR — the entire final table in Barcelona took little more than five hours to play out thanks to a mixture of Holz out-playing everyone and getting lucky when he needed.

In what might have been the most pivotal hand of the tournament Holz got all-in with pocket nines against Alexandros Kolonias’ pocket kings.

Holz spiked a nine on the flop and went on to eliminate Kolonias in fourth. From there Holz was never all-in for his tournament life and eventually successfully out-dueled Greenwood heads-up.
