On a pleasant Thursday, the 7th of September, Bratislava came alive with the excitement of the Coolbet Open. The day was filled with anticipation as both Day 1c and Day 1d of the Coolbet Main Event were on the schedule, alongside the thrilling final of the Coolbet Nations Cup. In a dramatic showdown, the victory ultimately belonged to Chile, as the skilful Luis Araneda outmatched Estonian contender Taavi Vaelisson in a gripping heads-up battle. Araneda secured a grand prize of €10,000, while Vaelisson had to settle for a still impressive €6,000. Amidst the intense poker action, an exciting event awaited participants on the picturesque lakeside of Bratislava – a thrilling session of wakeboarding.
The Banco Casino was buzzing with energy, its poker rooms brimming with eager players. The side events boasted top-notch competition, and the cash games were in full swing, with every table in the cash area occupied. PokerListings was on hand to capture every moment of these thrilling events, and now, let’s take a closer look at the highlights from this memorable day!
Day 1C Attracts 169 Players
Day 1c of the Main Event kicked off with a strong showing, attracting a total of 105 entries. Players were prepared for another gruelling day of intense live poker action. Notably, a slew of familiar names who hadn’t managed to secure a bag on the previous flights decided to take another shot at it. Among these seasoned participants were Oskar Wedde, Marius Morel, Christian Arstad, Oystein Brenden, and Philipp Sander, all of whom are well-known regulars at the Coolbet Open. Their determination to find a bag by the end of the day was evident.
Adding to the mix was Yehuda Yosef from Israel, who had been eliminated from Day 1a just before the close of play. Yosef, feeling confident in his abilities, was eager to rejoin the action and make a strong comeback.
Eventually, the total amount of entries would be 169, which was a great number of entries when looking at the high number of entries in those events. Only 23 players survived the day, after a good eleven hours of play. Unfortunately, Romanian Alexandru Budai, who was our player in the spotlight, didn’t manage to stay in the game. We will see him back on the last couple of opening flights for sure.
Yehuda would end the day with a staggering 861,000 chips, which is more than double as the chip leader of the previous flights. Oskar Wedde, who came on the table of Yehuda, read the Israelien well enough to conclude he would be playing extremely loose to try and accumulate more chips. He then took great advantage of it by scooping a nice pot with [Kx][7x], against the [Kx][2x] of Yehuda. From there onwards, Wedde would start building up momentum, to eventually finish the day with 256,000.
Another notable name is Manuel Blaschke from Austria. He is definitely one of the strong competitors to look out for on day 2 of this Coolbet Open Main Event. With victories on events such as the EPT, Unibet Deepstack, and Concorde Millions, he gathered himself over €500,000 in live career earnings. Including in all of his cashes, there is also a victory in the PokerListings Championship and the Banco Casino Masters, last year in Bratislava.
Jan Arthur Svendsen, the founder of the brand Coolbet, also visited sunny Bratislava for the live edition of the Coolbet Open. Unfortunately for him, he didn’t manage to stay in the game on Day 1c, but thankfully he managed to find a bag on Day 1d instead.
