It has been a week jampacked with poker news. The WSOP brand was sold to the NSUS Group, the engine of the GGPoker Network. The Festival Online 2024 kicked off during the weekend, and the Summer Festival on WPT Global is offering a whopping $8,000,000 in guaranteed prize pools!

WPT Global Changes Policy Towards Highly-Skilled Players: FAQ

Effective August 1st, 2024, WPT Global announced significant changes that will be impacting high-skilled NLHE and Short Deck cash game players by ceasing revenue payments to affiliates for these players. This decision, communicated by president Alex Scott on the Two Plus Two forum, aims to shift incentives and better allocate promotional funds, moving away from traditional rakeback systems, which WPT Global never officially offered.

Instead, rakeback was managed by affiliates. A new “Poker Rewards Program” offers a whopping 20% rakeback to early table starters. The site uses AI to classify players’ skill levels, affecting their seating and game options. High-skilled players face restrictions, while recreational players have full table access.

These changes are expected to reduce the number of professional players, benefiting game ecology by reducing predatory practices and enhancing the experience for recreational players.
