PokerListings Pulse #28: A Bit of Poker Psychology and All About the WSOP

July seems to be flying and with just half of the month already behind us, the poker world is gearing up to crown the next World Series of Poker champion in just a few days. So, somewhat logically, last week PokerListings was all about the WSOP 2024. Don’t believe us?

Check out our weekly PokerListings recap below!

WSOP – Who is Leading the ‘Player of the Year’ Ranking?

Last week started out with a serious question, namely – who is leading the Player of the Year ranking?

If you’re hearing about this for the first time, it’s time you get comfortable. In simple terms, the Player of the Year ranking is a competition that decides who takes home the title of the best player at the WSOP for the year.

As the WSOP enters its last days, more than a few names are being tossed around. As expected, the Tiger Woods of poker, Phil Ivey is on the list. He did just add the 11th Golden Bracelet to his resume after all. As for the rest of the players in the running for the title?

The Ultimate WSOP Stats: Hellmuth’s Bracelets, Mateos on the Hunt

Like I said, PokerListings was big on WSOP this week. With that said, instead of just reporting the results, we did a bit of a deep dive into WSOP history and came back with some intriguing (and some very expected) statistics.

Hand Converter and Mining: Everything You Need to Know

Alright, not everything we reported on this week had to do with the WSOP 2024. For instance, last week, our readers also had to chance to learn a bit about hand converters and poker mining.

Put into the simplest possible terms, hand converters are programs that convert the hand history from rooms and poker apps into an understandable format for poker trackers. Mining, on the other hand, is a database of hands from a certain limit in a cash, MTT or Spins. So, mining allows players to determine the trends of the field and player leaks.

If you’re still unsure of what this entails exactly , don’t worry, that’s what the article below is for. Well, that and answering the most important question – are hand converters and poker mining even legal?

Poker and Self-Esteem: Their Connection

Taking another, albeit small, break from reporting on the WSOP, PokerListings delved into a bit of poker psychology. More accurately, we investigated the connection between poker and self-esteem. After all, poker players are the first to be accused of having a big ego, but is that even a bad thing?

As with most things in life, it turns out the issue is not so black and white. To find out how poker and the ego intertwine and what happens when the latter gets out of hand, check out the article just below!
