PokerGO Poker Masters 2023 Recap: Big Winners but Stephen Chidwick Proves He’s the Master

The 2023 PokerGO Poker Masters came to a glittering conclusion this week and, thanks to an impressive finish, Stephen Chidwick is the new series champion.

Vladas Tamasauskas was the man to beat heading into the final few events of this poker tournament. The Lithuanian stormed to the top of the series leaderboard after winning two of the first four events. His position remained unchallenged until Stephen Chidwick found his form.

The Englishman finished sixth in Event #6 for $57,000 but, more importantly, he earned his first 57 Player of the Series points. What’s more, his first cash of the 2023 Poker Masters gave him enough momentum to go five places better in Event #8.

Winning that tournament earned Chidwick another $400,000 and 240 points. That haul moved him to fifth on the Player of the Series leaderboard with 297 points. Tamasauskas was still on top at this point but pressure was mounting from Chidwick, Darren Elias, Ren Lin, and Chino Rheem.

Of the chasing quartet, it was Chidwick who parlayed his momentum into a title-winning run. A third-place finish in Event #9 got Chidwick $148,000 and 89 points, before a near miss in Event #10 sealed the deal thanks to a $504,000 payday and 302 points.

Winning the Player of the Series title means Stephen Chidwick takes home PokerGO’s coveted purple jacket. He also picked up an extra $50,000 to go along with the $1,109,000 he banked for his four cashes.

Another Successful Series for PokerGO

Chidwick might be the 2023 Poker Masters Champion but plenty of other well-known pros got their hands on trophies this year. In addition to the winners we profiled last week, the following players won events at the PokerGO Studio in Las Vegas:

  • Event #5: Andrew Lichtenberger – $204,000
  • Event #6: Orpen Kisacikoglu – $218,500
  • Event #7: Nick Schulman – $374,000
  • Event #8: Stephen Chidwick – $400,000
  • Event #9: Justin Bonomo – $333,000
  • Event #10: Jonathan Jaffe – $756,000

This year’s Poker Masters was a resounding success on every level. The list of winners lived up to hype, with virtually every champion being a household name. Attendance figures were also strong. A total of 742 buy-ins were collected across 10 events, putting the overall prizepool at $11,065,000.

Of all the tournaments that took place this year, Event #1 was the best attended. The $10,000 Texas Hold’em event attracted 114 entries, which makes it the biggest ever Poker Masters tournament.

The tournament team at PokerGO HQ will be hoping for more of the same in the Super High Roller Bowl. The $300,000 tournament kicks off on September 28 and, with most of poker’s elite already in Vegas, we can expect more high-quality action from the PokerGO Studio over the coming days but, for now, Stephen Chidwick is the master.
