No Paradise for Kid Poker: Daniel Negreanu Exits WSOP $25K Super Main Event

No Paradise for Kid Poker: Daniel Negreanu Exits WSOP $25K Super Main Event

It was a frustrating day for Daniel Negreanu at the $25,000 WSOP Paradise Super Main Event. Starting Day 3 with 5,795,000 chips and sitting in 39th place out of 297 players, the GGPoker Ambassador had high hopes after a solid Day 2 performance. But the poker gods had other plans. Negreanu’s journey in the $26,000 event ended in Level 17 after a string of tough beats and what he described as a tilt-inducing runout of cards.

I had no fun today at any point from the start. Once we sat down, nothing about this was fun for me,” Negreanu lamented after busting out in 170th place for $67,300.

A Tough Start and Fatal Flip for Daniel Negreanu

Negreanu’s troubles began early in Level 17 (40,000/80,000/80,000). In a blind-versus-blind situation, Weiran Pu moved all in from the small blind for 935,000 holding A♥ J♠. Negreanu, sitting in the big blind, called with Q♠ 9♠.

The flop of 10♥ 7♥ 3♠ gave Negreanu some outs with straight and flush draws, but the turn and river ran out 6♠ 2♦, doubling up Pu and leaving Negreanu with a significantly reduced stack.

Negreanu’s final hand came later in the day in a three-way pot. A player under the gun raised to 240,000 with K♦ Q♥, and Justin Carey called on the button with K♥ J♥. Negreanu, in the big blind, shoved for 1.03 million with pocket tens (10♠ 10♣).

Carey, receiving favorable pot odds, called with K♥ J♥. The flop of 9♠ J♦ 4♦ gave Carey the lead with a pair of jacks. Although the Q♣ on the turn gave Negreanu an open-ended straight draw, the river brought the 6♣, ending his run in the Super Main Event.

Negreanu didn’t take long to bounce back, registering for the $50K NLH High Roller later in the day. He ended Day 1 of that event in 12th place with 845,000 chips, determined to shake off the disappointment.

Big Names Shine as Addamo Dominates

While Negreanu exited, others thrived in the $26K Super Main Event. Michael Addamo turned a modest 3.9M stack into a commanding 85,350,000 chips to lead the final 36 players. A massive three-way pot with A♦ K♦, where Addamo flopped the nut flush against top set and top pair, cemented his position.

Also still in the hunt are notable names like Justin Bonomo (22.4M), Chris Moneymaker (34M), and Liv Boeree, who is the last woman standing. With everyone guaranteed $140,900, the stakes remain high as the tournament heads toward its $6M first-place prize.
