Ambassadors in the context of real money online poker don’t all necessarily fit the same mould. For example, some are famous names whose mere association is deemed by the operator to be enough good publicity, while the influence of social media is such that even if you barely know a pair from a flush you could still be a marketing dream if you have a massive online following.
WPT Global has managed to get the best of both worlds in recruiting their first dedicated online poker content and brand ambassador. Given the fact that it has already experienced being the world’s largest cash game poker network this online platform of the World Poker Tour (WPT) might seem like an industry veteran, but it has actually been in existence only since last year.
Back to the poker star who has just been signed up in the progressive new role at WPT Global, it is none other than Ethan ‘Rampage’ Yau of Montreal, Canada, a popular personality and influencer in the poker world whose excellent reputation is well earned. The same goes for his ‘Rampage’ nickname, as his story is a worthy one and will no doubt serve to inspire WPT Global regulars who will now be able to play against him on the site!
Poker Masterdom
Having started as a recreational player, Rampage moved up through the ranks and graduated to the level that befits his name by being very successful in big money cash games and tournaments. Incidentally, it’s worth pointing out that this spanning of both cash and tournament poker is a feature of a number of top players’ histories. Too many newcomers and amateurs mistakenly make the decision to concentrate on just one specific poker variant, but an increasingly popular school of thought among professionals nowadays is that we should strive to include various forms of the game in our repertoire. It does indeed follow that someone who makes a point of spending time at Texas Hold’em and Omaha cash tables as well as playing Sit & Go games and online poker tournaments should develop a better all-round understanding of poker. It certainly worked for Rampage, whose first major online tournament success was earning $164,494 and a WSOP Bracelet in the $500 Grand Finale in 2020. He won the $25,000 High Roller during last December’s WPT World Championship at Wynn Las Vegas for almost $900,000, and has nearly $2,000,000 in career live poker tournament earnings. Impressively, he also managed to win over $500,000 in one single live cash game session on the Hustler Casino Live poker stream recently!
You can follow Ethan Yau’s story and exploits on his popular YouTube poker vlogs and other content. This will also explain why he’s been snapped up by WPT Global to help create content showcasing the platform’s features and benefits, as well as having a role in devising promotions.
