Mario Mosböck on CoinPoker, Crypto, and Crushing the High Stakes Scene

Mario Mosböck on CoinPoker, Crypto, and Crushing the High Stakes Scene

Mario Mosböck‘s journey from professional football to high-stakes poker is the stuff of sports legend.

The 27-year-old Austrian, once a promising footballer with SKN Sankt Pölten and SC Wiener Neustadt, stunned many when he left the pitch behind to pursue his passion for poker. It was a bold move, but one that paid off handsomely. Today, Mosböck finds himself rubbing shoulders with poker royalty, holding his own at the Triton Super High Roller Series and racking up millions in prize money.

Mosböck’s rise has been rapid, yet calculated. Early guidance from poker luminary Fedor Holz and a stint at the Pokercode Grindhouse sharpened his skills, leading to pivotal victories—like his $1,050 SCOOP Main Event win and his breakout Triton title in Monte Carlo. With nearly $6.3 million in Triton earnings alone, he’s become one of poker’s most intriguing new stars, seamlessly transitioning from the world of athletics to the intense mental battleground of poker tournaments.

Now, as an ambassador for CoinPoker, Mosböck embarks on a new chapter — balancing high-stakes poker with helping to shape a modern, player-focused online poker room.

In an exclusive interview, PokerListings’ Vasilisa Zyryanova sat down with Mosböck to discuss his role at CoinPoker, recent platform changes, and his vision for the poker community.

Interview With Mario Mosböck

PokerListings: What are CoinPoker Team’s view and your personal view as its ambassador on affiliates and their place in the industry?

Mario Mosböck: Affiliates play an essential role in the poker ecosystem, and they are not just intermediaries for us at CoinPoker, but true partners in adding value. Their ability to connect with and localize for different player bases is invaluable.

Personally, I see a strong affiliate system as a way to empower creators and community leaders to grow the game organically, while aligning everyone’s incentives. CoinPoker is building a performance-driven affiliate model, designed to reward engagement and actual results. We’re focused on fostering partnerships that drive long-term success for both sides.

PokerListings: In October 2024, CoinPoker offers players NLH, PLO, and PLO5. Are other variants of poker on the roadmap? What are long-term plans to expand the roster of offered games?

Mario Mosböck: Expanding beyond NLH, PLO, and PLO5 is definitely in the plans. We’re considering other formats like mixed games, short deck, and some unique variants that would appeal specifically to online players. The feedback we get from our community is central to deciding which games to add.

Our long-term aim is to continuously improve and diversify the offering, ensuring that CoinPoker remains an exciting platform for all types of players.

PokerListings: Do you plan to regularly make content from CoinPoker or FAQ for the community? If you chose another format of communication, can you share it with us?

Mario Mosböck: Yes, I plan to create regular content for CoinPoker, whether it’s answering FAQs, filming content or discussing broader poker strategies with the community on Discord.

We’re still working out which format will be the most effective, but I see a mix of video content, live streaming, and written materials as ideal ways to stay connected. The community is growing, and I’m keen to contribute by offering consistent, valuable content that enhances the player experience.

PokerListings: You are undoubtedly one of the most popular and respected poker players in the modern poker community. Why did you choose CoinPoker to team up with?

Mario Mosböck: I’m genuinely excited to work with the CoinPoker ownership & management team in building a player-focused poker room. When they took over this year, they quickly showed that running a well-managed and fair poker room is their top priority.

Being part of an upcoming platform where we can have real influence and help grow the player base is far more exciting to me than working with established brands where players don’t have much input. CoinPoker allows us to shape something meaningful from the ground up, and that’s an opportunity I couldn’t pass up.

PokerListings: Did you have some insights from your work with CoinPoker already or is it too early to share some impressions and conclusions?

Mario Mosböck: It’s still early, but I can confidently say that the teams at CoinPoker are outstanding. From ownership to management, these are the people you want running a poker room from a player’s perspective. They listen to feedback and act on it, and they are always striving to improve the product. It’s refreshing to work with a team that genuinely cares about building the best experience for players, and I’m excited about the direction we’re heading.
