After four days, hundreds of intense poker hands and (approximately) a thousand commercials for the Dollar Shave Club, it all came down to two Germans.

And two German best friends, at that.

The $300k Aria Super High Roller Bowl came to its conclusion around 1 am local time after a drawn-out heads-up match between Rainer Kempe and Fedor Holz – two exceptional players from an exceptional German poker crowd.

Despite Holz actually claiming the chip lead during the heads-up it was Kempe who regained his balance and took the crown, securing $5m in the process and easily the biggest score of his career.

The even-younger Holz, who impressed virtually all of opponents in the tournament with his play, walked away with $3.5m and another extraordinary star on an already dazzling report card.

Seidel Third, Hellmuth Fourth

With the 2016 WSOP on the doorstep it was only fitting a couple of the game’s legends who began making their mark on the game back in the WSOPs of the late ’80s were still in the mix.

Fedor dazzles again.

Phil Hellmuth, who won the Main Event in 1989 to begin his long career as a bracelet accumulator, riled up much of the field with his banter over the past few days but proved yet again he knows what it takes to stay alive in poker tournaments.

Riding the short stack for much of the day Hellmuth managed to leapfrog a few players in the payouts and claimed 4th for $1.6m.

Erik Seidel, who still might be best remembered for his runner-up finish in the 1988 Main Event to Johnny Chan, immortalized in Rounders, showed he’s still as great a player today as he was then.

Never getting a stack big enough to threaten Kempe or Holz he rode solid decision-making and an impeccable sense of timing to third place and $2.4m.

Day 2 chip leader Matt Berkey managed to ride his big stack all the way to a fifth-place finish and $1.1m while hedge funder Dan Shak and pro Bryn Kenney finished 7th and 6th, respectively.
