With 47 events either done or underway at the 2016 World Series of Poker the story so far for Team 888poker is a bit “what might have been.”

Despite four Brazilian ambassadors on the team – Nicolau Villa-Lobos, Bruno Politano, Bruno Kawauti and Denilson – it’s been the Europeans Sofia Lövgren, Chris Moorman and Dominik Nitsche with the most cashes so far.

With solid performances from all three the cashes are coming but it’s a couple of near misses – one for Lövgren and one for Moorman – that’s likely had them talking at the team dinners.

Still, with 20 events left to play including the signature Main Event there’s plenty of opportunity left to make a major splash.

Good Start for Sofia

The always charming Swede Lövgren caught a lot of attention early on in the Series when she surged up the field in the 7,190-player, $1,500 Millionaire Maker.

Still smiling.

With two spots up top paying out $1m+ the much-hyped tourney lived up to its name but Lövgren couldn’t quite get a taste of six-figures.

After hovering near the top of the counts for much of the event she finally bowed out in 12th, just shy of the final table.

Outlasting 7,177 players is still a remarkable accomplishment and the $75,109 a nice way to get the series underway. 

As she also made the money in the similarly massive Colossus beforehand, she began the WSOP 2-2 in cashes. 

She’s yet to hit the payout table since but is off to a good start in the $1,500 Bounty event today:

Near Miss for Moorman, Aria Splash for Nitsche

Newly signed 888 pro Chris Moorman had his own big-field near-miss to contemplate in Event #33, the $1,500 Summer Solstice.

Online poker’s #1 all time tournament player put his minesweeper skills to good use to get all the way to 13th but could go no further.

With $19,943 for that cash and a just one small min-cash in the Colossus it’s been a slow start financially for Moorman but the ability is always there to go deep any day.

Dominik Nitsche, meanwhile, already over half a million dollars richer since he touched down in Las Vegas three weeks ago although the bulk of it has come outside of the frigid Rio.

Two final tables in Aria High Roller events including a second-place for $630k has put Nitsche in the top three of the GPI POY race for 2016. His WSOP cashes pale in comparison financially at under $10k but he does have three cashes to show.

As for the Brazilians just Bruno Kawauti and Bruno Politano have managed to make the money once each, and both cashes were under $10k.
