Koon Knocks Off Carrel for First PCSB $100k Crown, $1.6m
The first-ever PokerStars Championship Bahamas has its first champion.
West Virginian Jason Koon – on a fantastic $2.5m+ heater over the last six months – added another nice line in his growing resume by taking down the $100k Super High Roller at Atlantis tonight.
It was the first under the new PokerStars Championship banner, rather than the old EPT umbrella, but the $1.6m first-place prize surely makes the acronym irrelevant – at least to Koon.
“This could be the best of my poker accomplishments,” Koon told the PokerStars blog after his win. “I won $25Ks and $50Ks but I’ve never closed out a $100K and this is the $100K to win.”
Not only did Koon top 40 of the best high-stakes poker players in the world he also managed to waylay heads-up one of the hottest players on the planet right now in Charlie Carrel.
Second Runner-Up in Past Month for Carrel
While Koon has been busy racking up massive results in Las Vegas and Florida over the past year Carrel has been doing likewise in Europe.
Can’t stop crushing.
The former Spirit of Poker Rising Star winner crushed poker stops in Dublin, Monaco, Malta, Amsterdam and Prague this year and capped it off in December with a €500k runner-up finish in the €50k EPT Prague SHR.
Both players were so confident from their recent successes that neither discussed a deal despite a $500k pay jump between first and second. Carrel ultimately pocketed $1.2m for second.
All of the players at the final table, in fact, were so confident of their chances a look at the numbers didn’t materialize at any point.
Dan Colman, a man very familiar with massive heaters himself, finished third for $759,660 while Canadian Daniel Dvoress was fourth for $576,300. Last year’s champ Bryn Kenney finished just inside the money in 7th for $275,060. Full results below:
