Jake Schindler wins $250k SHRB Europe, Ivey best player of the series

The Merit Royal Hotel Casino in Cyprus hosted the final of the Super Highroller Bowl Europe Main Event on Good Friday. The $250,000 tournament attracted 32 entries and the eventual winner was American Jake Schindler. The tournament concluded the two-week tournament series in Cyprus and Phil Ivey was crowned the best player across all tournaments.

With a buy-in of a quarter of a million dollars, the Super Highroller Main Event was the most expensive tournament of the year so far. The event attracted a total of 32 players, so $8 million was played for. This was a noticeable drop in the number of players compared to last year (41 entries). After three days, the tournament was decided on the evening of Good Friday.

Three hours of bubble

After the first day of play, the field had shrunk from 32 to 23 entries. Many notable players were still in the field, but were eliminated during the second day of play. These included Ben Heath, Phil Ivey, Cary Katz and Sam Greenwood.

The 2nd day of play ended with seven players, with only five players getting paid. The bubble was left to the final day of play on the TV table.

After Michael Addamo busted in 6th place the bubble loomed at the TV table. While 6th place went home with nothing, the fifth place finisher got a payout of $560,000. The search for that 6th place finish lasted a full three hours. It took a special confrontation to unravel this situation: Timothy Adams found Aces and a customer in Ali Imsirovic, who held the second best hand with Kings. After a few raises, both were all-in preflop and the better hand won the showdown.

This made Ali Imsirovic, who was the 2021 PokerGo Tour Player of the Year, bubble boy. He repeated his finish from last year in this tournament. Back then, he was also the last player to leave the Super Highroller Bowls Europe Main Event without any prize money.

Schindler wins heads-up

After Imsirovic, Dutchman Teun Meulder, Timothy Adams and Christoph Vogelsang were eliminated. This left Paul Phua and Jake Schindler in the final heads-up. Schindler started the duel with a clear 2-1 lead and he quickly extended this lead by aggressive play. In the final hand, Phua shoved his few remaining chips all-in with Q-4. Schindler called with Q-J and the better queen won the showdown.

Thus Jake Schindler won the Main Event and he took home $3.2 million in prize money. “It’s nice to win a title in a tournament like this,” Schindler said after his win, continuing, “I just tried to do my best in every hand and think about every situation that came up.” This concept worked out for him this time and the Super Highroller Bowl Europe victory is Schindler’s biggest monetary success to date.

Phil Ivey best player at the Super Highroller Series

Although Phil Ivey did not make it into the money in the Main Event of the Super Highroller Bowl, he still managed to win the leaderboard of the entire tournament series.

Thanks to two victories in the short deck and PLO events and a total of five cashes, he finished first in the ranking of the best players in Cyprus this year.

In the ranking of the most successful players of the year on the PokerGo Tour, Ivey is now in second place just behind Ali Imsirovic.
