It’s Been a Week of New Poker Records Around the Globe

However much we might claim that the best thing about poker is that it’s great fun (not unjustifiably, because it’s an exhilarating, fascinating game), every poker fan worth their salt dreams of winning big, whether that be an online poker tournament or a live poker event.
This week’s poker news round-up at PokerListings features two players who managed this achievement on opposite sides of the globe, one of them making a habit of it!
First up is the recent WPT Prime India Main Event, Main Event in India, which saw the many hopefuls battling it out in the luxurious surroundings of the Deltin Royale Casino in Goa, an interesting venue in that it is Asia’s largest off-shore casino.
The World Poker Tour has only rarely (three times) stopped off in the sub-continent, and the last time in India was four years ago. Poker fans in the region were obviously very pleased to see a prestigious event finally return to their neck of the woods, as was evidenced by the big money tournament attracting 857 entrants over the three Day 1 Flights, with the total prize pool equating to $617,377 – a new record for poker in India and boding well for international poker generally. All nine players who managed to reach the final table were guaranteed a minimum payout of $10,508, with the eventual champion Prasit Chowdhury pocketing a cool $105,809 for his victory. Prasit also received a juicy bonus in the form of a Winner of a $10,400 seat at the WPT World Championship at Wynn Las Vegas!
Incidentally, those of you who are suitably inspired to hit the big time at this tour’s exotic locations around the globe can achieve the quest that takes you from real money online poker to live competition by winning a WPT Poker Passport at WPT Global – rags to riches stories can be a reality in the poker world…
Meanwhile, over in the United States, another player who was tasting victory could be forgiven for losing count of his successes. Wisconsin’s Josh Reichard bagged his 14th(!) World Series of Poker Circuit ringwhen winning the $1,700 buy-in WSOPC Grand Victoria Main Event in Chicago this week, for a career best $253,073 payout. Reichard finished as the last man standing from a field of 954 in a Main Event that generated $1.5 million in total prize money. This was a record-equalling result as Reichard now joins Maurice Hawkins at the top of the all-time WSOPC Ring list. An interesting coincidence, by the way, is that both Reichard and the legendary Phil Hellmuth – the all-time WSOP bracelet (16 bracelets!) – are from Wisconsin, so there could be something in the water in the Badger State…
Finally, at PokerListings we aim to provide the poker community with the best opportunities to make the most of their time at the tables, so check out the latest online poker bonuses and offers in our dedicated info section.
Good luck at the tables, and have fun!
