Five Series to Watch in the US in April (Plus Two in Canada)

With pandemic restrictions lifting across the United States, the live poker scene is swinging back into action after nearly two years of COVID chaos. Across the USA, there are festivals galore and in this piece I’ll highlight five tournament series in the USA during the month of April, plus two more series in Canada, that players should keep their eyes on.

Live poker is returning after nearly two years of chaos as pandemic restrictions have made the live game either impossible or radically different. Most markets across North America are returning to more normal live poker protocols, with full tables, no partitions, and limited masking/vaccination requirements.

That means that April is chock-full of big tournament series around North America. Here are a few games that players in the USA and Canada should look out for this April.

For players near Florida, the Seminole Hard Rock is the place to be early in April as the World Poker Tour comes to town with a $3,000,000 guaranteed Main Event. The Main Event features two Day 1 starting flights on Apr 8 and 9, followed by three more scheduled days of play.

On the other side of the country, the Bicycle Casino in Bell Gardens, CA is nearing the end of the massive 2022 Winnin’ O’ the Green series. The series began back in late February, and has already hosted some huge events, but they saved the best for last with the $1 million guaranteed Mega Millions XXI starting on April 6.

The Wynn Las Vegas Poker Room is hosting its Signature Series starting on April 6 and running through the 24th. In total, the Wynn Signature Series will give away more than $1.5 million before its over.

There’s more than $2.25 million guaranteed when the World Series of Poker Circuit heads to North Carolina this month. A whopping $1 million of that is guaranteed for the Main Event alone, but there are two other games with half a million guaranteed, and more than a dozen gold rings on offer.

Alberta is a hotbed of tournament poker right now, as the only province currently putting on big tournament series. The focus in April will be on Calgary and the month kicks off with the return of the Spring Super Stack at Deerfoot Inn & Casino after a two-year absence thanks to COVID. With roots going back to 2012, players will be eager to welcome the Spring Super Stack back into the live tournament schedule.
