Between 2019 and July 2024, Griff made only 8 ITMs and a little more than $47K in total live winnings. His best ever cash is just $18,104 for taking 9th place in the $1,700 Main Event of WSOPC Northern California 2023; and now, he’s got a seat at the WSOP Main Event Final Table.

Brian Kim

Korean-American professional high stakes player Brian Kim is one of the most recognizable faces of the WSOP 2024 Main Event.

Kim has been in the poker industry since 2010, rising to poker stardom in the last ten years thanks to his performance on live poker shows, including Live At The Bike, Hustler Casino and Bally Live Poker, and also Triton Poker Series.

While he hasn’t been able to win any live WSOP events yet, Kim’s already taken home one WSOP Online bracelet in 2022, after winning the $5,300 NLH – High Roller on WSOP.com (NV/NJ). As of now, his best live cash is $954,000 for a 3rd place finish in the $53,000 NLH – 8-Handed in the Triton Super High Roller Series Jeju 2024.

Niklas Astedt

Swedish poker machine and honorary member of the GGPoker Team Champion Niklas Astedt, also known as “Lena900” has been playing poker professionally since 2008/2009. Even with such a long online career, Astedt only began playing live tournaments regularly in 2022.

His online results are so impressive that they can’t even be reliably collected and calculated. On July 15th, 2024, PokerStakes announced Astedt has won almost $50 million in online poker, scooping up countless titles along the way. Just as an example, Astedt has won SCOOP at least six times, the Super MILLION$ High Rollers events for times, and the WCOOP 3 times – to name a few that is.

In live tournaments, his total winnings sum up over $3 million, all from 110 ITMs. His best live cashes are listed below:

Joseph Serock

With that said, the above is not even close to his best cash, which he also secured online. In 2021, Serock made the final table of the $5K Main Event Online Championship on GGPoker WSOP Online. He finished 5th, taking down a $804,191 prize.

When it comes to live tournaments, Serock’s “binked” more than once, collecting in total over $4,5 million in live earnings. His five best cashes are:

Jason Sagle

Seasoned Canadian player Jason Sagle, also known by nickname “Big Bird”, has a history of WSOP ITMs going all the way back to 2004. However, Sagle has been out of the game for almost ten years.

What makes his presence at the WSOP Final Table even more interesting, is his lack of victories in live events — among the 95 ITMs he’s played, there have been only three:

EventSeriesPrize
$340 NHLThe Wynn Summer Classic 2012$4,400
C$1,100 NLHFallsview Poker Classic 2015$155,599
$400 NLHThe Wynn Signature Series 2023$13,639

His highest placement at WSOP dates all the way back to 2006, when he finished 5th in $2,000 Pot Limit Hold’em taking home a prize worth $64,428. However, his best World Series cash came even earlier, in 2004, when he took $120,000 for a 23rd place finish in the $10,000 World Championship Event.

Sagle’s best ever cash before Main Event WSOP 2024 was $600,455 for taking 2nd place in the C$10,300 WPT North American Poker Championships in 2006.

Boris Angelov

Young Bulgarian poker pro Boris Angelov has been playing live poker for less than five years, with his first ITMs tournaments dating back to just 2021.

As a result, his WSOP performance before this Main Event can be considered quite humble — the highest places he took were:

40th €10,350 WSOPE Main EventWSOPE 2021

As Angelov doesn’t have any victories in live tournaments to date — his best result is considered 2nd place in €5,300 EPT Monte Carlo 2024 Main Event, where he went home with a €620,500 prize.

Jonathan Tamayo

U.S. poker player Jonathan Tamayo came to the live events from the city of Humble. While his bio on X (ex-Twitter) echoes the city’s name — Tamayo refers to himself as a “huge underachiever” — we can’t say the same about his results.

Tamayo has been making ITMs in live tournaments since 2006. As of July 15th 2024, Tamayo has 143 of them. Four-of-five his victories were scored on the WSOP Circuit, bringing him more than $300 thousand in prizes:

Andres Gonzalez

Andres has been playing poker for more than 12 years at this point. However, in over a decade, he has never won a live tournament or collected more than $21,838 at once. So, his performance at WSOP 2024 already could be considered a success — no matter what place he takes ends up taking in the Main Event.
