They came into the final table at the 2016 Aussie Millions Main Event 1, 2, 3 in chips and that’s exactly how they left. Only one of them is now $1.6m AUD richer.
That one? Canadian pro Ari Engel, who outlasted WPT host Tony Dunst heads-up over 4 hours to seal his biggest ever live score.
The veteran pro has been around the poker circuit now for a decade but the $1.6m he earned tonight in Australia now makes up a third of his career earnings.
With no deal reported at the final table Dunst still took home an impressive $1m AUD for second, also his biggest career score.
Making it a trio of career-best performances live stream sensation Sam Abernathy, who won the pot of the tournament on Day 4 against Mikel Habb, finished third for over $600k AUD.

Abernathy a sensation.
All told Engel outlasted a field of 732 runners, the fourth-largest in Aussie Millions Main Event history.

Three of those happened to be Australians in John Apostolidis, Dylan Honeyman and Alex Lynskey, who still collected $1m AUD between them.
Taiwan’s Kitty Kuo grabbed the other $270k for sixth. Complete final-table results and payouts:
