Canadian Jonathan Duhamel claimed his third career WSOP bracelet today in Berlin by taking down the €25k WSOPE High Roller over Davidi Kitai heads-up.
Mustapha Kanit, Sam Chartier, Christoph Vogelsong and Fedor Holz joined them in the final six to make it a thoroughly tough final table and an impressive win for Duhamel.
The 2010 WSOP Main Event champ has won almost $8m more since then (including $4m and a bracelet in this year’s $111k WSOP One Drop) and now added the prestigious €25k WSOPE High Roller to his collection.
For the win Duhamel earned more than €550,000.
Germans Exit First
Six players made it to this final table and the first two hours they mostly moved chips around without anyone busting.
But this chip movement saw the two Germans in the field, Fedor Holz and Christoph Vogelsang, drop to the bottom of the counts.
Holz was already almost out when he was all-in with fives against Kitai’s kings. But he got lucky when the board fell A♣ K♣ J♦ Q♣ T♦, giving both players a straight and Fedor a chop.
His luck was used up when he shoved his last five big blinds with ten-nine, was called by Duhamel with ace-seven and lost after two more sevens on the board.
Vogelsang, best known for finishing 3rd in the Big One for One Drop last year for almost $4.5m, lasted one hour longer but eventually fell against Kanit.
Kanit semi-bluffed on a T♦ 7♠ 6♦ flop, shoving all-in with J♠ 9♦ (gutshot and an overcard) and Vogelsang called with K♣ T♣.
The turn sealed the hand to give Kanit a straight with the 8♥ and leave Vogelsang drawing dead to finish 5th.
Kanit Busts Another but Falls After
Kanit was also responsible for the next bust when he was all-in with tens against Sam Chartier’s king-six.
The board gave Kanit a set and sent Chartier to the rail in 4th — the same position he finished a week ago in the €3k NLH event.
With Chartier’s elimination Kanit’s run also came to an end as he first lost a big pot against Kitai and minutes later shoved all-in from the small blind for 12 big blinds with Q♥ 5♠.
Kitai called with A♣ J♦ and won the hand after both players whiffed.
Heads-Up: Duhamel vs. Kitai
With the bust of Kanit the heads up was set. Jonathan Duhamel (Main Event champion 2010 and double bracelet winner) against Davidi Kitai (triple bracelet and triple crown winner).
Both players started with roughly even stacks but with only 30 big blinds per player tthey were already shallow enough to see some high-paced action.
Duhamel got the better start in this duel and quickly established a 3-1 lead. Kitai managed to come back once when he doubled up with king-jack against nine-eight, but Duhamel kept the pressure on.
The Canadian quickly regained a commanding lead and finally Kitai moved all-in from the button for 14 big blinds with J♥ 7♠.
Duhamel called with 7♣ 7♥ and won the hand and the tournament after the board fell A♠ K♠ 2♠ 8♥ 7♦.
