Doyle Brunson Returns to the WSOP 2021

“A Man With Money Is No Match Against A Man On A Mission”

Doyle Brunson is one of the most well-known and loved American poker players in the world, with a career in poker (most notably Texas hold em) spanning over 50 years.

He’s a member of Poker Hall of Fame in1988, won two World Series of Poker Main Events, 10 WSOP bracelets, and is the acclaimed author of four books including, Super System 1, the most influential book ever written and a bible to most poker players of that generation, and the sequel Super System 2.

Brunson was also part of Doyle’s Room which was an online poker room created in 2004 and named after the poker pro. It was a place to play poker online with friends or to really improve your game offering a number of real money poker game including Texas hold ’em, Badugi, Seven-card stud, and Omaha. The poker room also hosted regular tournaments featuring Doyle Brunson, giving players a chance to play with the Texas Dolly.

Although Brunson says he is retired from the game, he showed up at Event #52: $1,000 SUPER SENIORS No-Limit Hold’em as surprise to both the players and one of the dealers of the event:

“I read his book and it influenced me said the dealer, unfortunately I dealt him only one hand, and this was the hand that he went all in blind and ran into Pocket Aces”.  

The $1,000 SUPER SENIORS No-Limit Hold’em Championship attracted a total of 5,404 entries generating $4,809,560 prize pool. 811 players were ITM (in the money), with the winner Robert McMillan taking home $561,060 and a World Series of Poker gold bracelet. The win tops McMillan’s biggest payday in his whole career and his fourth cash in this event.

As one of the last poker greats still standing at 88 years old, Brunson made history at the WSOP back in 1976 with one of the worst bad beats in Main Event history.

Brunson shoves all-in with the weaker hand, and Alto snap calls.

But the Poker gods were on the “The Godfather of Poker” side as on the turn came 2♣ and the winning card for Brunson a 10♦ on the river. Giving him a Full house.

The 10-2 was since that day forever known as the Doyle Brunson hand. If a player turned over these cards in a game it is more than likely that someone will say “ahhh the Doyle Brunson Hand” It Won him two WSOP titles, his first ever No Limit Hold ‘Em event at the World Series of Poker 76’ and he won it again in 77’ with the same hand!

Over the years the WSOP has seen many historical hands, but one definitely goes down as one of the best, where luck truly was on the Pokerheroes’ side.

This Was the Real Doyle and NOT a Halloween Costume!

Although Doyle’s visit was short at this years 2021 WSOP, it truly was an incredible surprise to see one of the biggest names in Poker return to the felt on Halloween night. Many players took a double take as he entered Day 1 of the Super Seniors tournament at around 3:30 p.m. PT not knowing at first if it was the real Doyle Brunson.

“All Poker players I think look up to him, it was definitely a thrill and a chance of a lifetime to play with him” said one player after having the chance to play alongside one of poker greatest legends.
