The PokerListings Daily 3-Bet is an inbounds pass, a mad sprint down court and a two-handed afternoon poker news jam that snaps your head back like a whip.
Have something you’d like featured in a future 3-Bet? Let us know in the comments.
Today in the 3-Bet Phil Hellmuth gives the skinny on the best poker players in the NBA, some mystery players appear for the $500k Super High Roller Bowl and Twitch.tv’s Scott Ball hints of a big future with poker streaming.
1) Hellmuth: Westbrook Pro-Level Grinder
Once again, if you can bear the egregious name-dropping, Phil Hellmuth has aired a few secrets to the world on FoxSportsLive.
After giving a few tips on sportsbetting last week (we told you about St. John’s, Phil), Hellmuth broke down the poker games of several NBA stars on the second part of the segment posted today.
Just how well does he know how David Lee, Andrew Bogut, Steph Curry, Russell Westbrook and Tony Parker really play poker?
Well, we’ll give him the benefit of the doubt on the Warriors and Lee, as Lee plays in his NorCal home game. And he’s prob. played a few hands with Parker and Westbrook given their known love for the game.
Still, prob. a bit of Hellmuth aggrandizing involved here. Although we’re not surprised to hear Westbrook is a killer at the tables. Clip below:
They’re spectacular on the court, but how are NBA stars at the poker table? @phil_hellmuth has played with the best. https://t.co/pr1b3wKCpm— FOX Sports Live (@FOXSportsLive) March 24, 2015
2) CEO, Hedge Fund Manager Join Super High Roller Bowl Lineup
We’re already pretty giddy about this summer’s $500k buy-in Super High Roller Bowl at the Aria as huge buy-in tournaments are, well, awesome for the spectacle/mainstream attention.
What makes them worthwile for the players, though, is the overall ratio of pros to amateurs in the field.
The Big One for One Drop showed a decided shift towards a pro-heavy field in its second edition last year so for a big buy-in event like this one to succeed, it’ll have to draw in some non-pros to add to the appeal.
Enter an unnamed CEO, Hedge Fund Manager and a Retired Businessman who have all been added to the lineup of players scheduled to play.
None of their identities have been revealed, and they of course could still withdraw beforehand, but even a sniff of fresh game in the field will likely draw a few more pros into the mix.
All told 39 players have now committed to play including new additions Byron Kaverman, Sam Soverel and Keith Lehr. See the full player list so far here.
3) Twitch on GPM: “We’ll Be Working With Them for a Long Time”
With over 1 million viewers tuning in for the inaugural Global Poker Masters on Twitch.tv, it’s pretty clear there’s a big and growing market for interactive live streaming of poker events.
As poker streaming superstar Jason Somerville has even conjectured, it could be where the next poker boom lies in wait.
PokerListings chatted with Twitch’s Poker Partnerships Lead, Scott Ball, in Malta and based on first impressions – and an inspiring go-getter like Alex Dreyfus at the helm – he says we can expect Twitch and the Global Poker Masters to continue their partenrship for a long time.
