The PokerListings Daily 3-Bet is a singular sense of style, impeccable timing for one-liners and an open seat reserved at any afternoon poker news table.
Have something you’d like featured in a future 3-Bet? Let us know in the comments. Today in the 3-Bet we find Phil Ivey hunting down some action in the Philippines, the WPT500 makes a big leap and the tributes continue to roll in for a true poker icon.
1) Ivey: Who’s Got Next?
While much of the high-stakes action in Asia has been in Macau over the past couple of years it’s not exactly the easiest place to find a seat. Given the casinos’ preferences for table games and increasingly choosy locals rumor has it it’s much trickier to get in a game than it used to be.
Enter the Solaire Casino in Manila, Philippines. After a recent visit from the WPT the poker scene has apparently boomed and some of the game’s biggest high rollers – including Tom Dwan and Dan “Jungleman12” Cates – have been seen kicking the tires.
Where there’s fish, there’s sharks, and the #1 poker player in the world has apparently dropped in to see if there’s any blood in the water:
In Manila for now, but where’s the next poker game? pic.twitter.com/XaOI6sIktqâ Phil Ivey (@philivey) April 6, 2015
By the sounds of it it’s not in Manila (yet), but who knows down the road. High-stakes poker players don’t give up easily when they need a feed.
2) WPT500 Ups Guarantee to $2 Million
Sean Yu turned $565 into $250k. Why not you? We knew a couple of years ago that mid-range buy-in tournaments were the wave of the future. The WSOP and the WPT are clearly onboard that train now, too.
First the WSOP introduced The Colossus for 2015, with the lowest open-event buy-in ever, and now the WPT has fired back with a new edition of the WPT500 around the same time. While the WSOP expects up to 24,000 (!) players for the Colossus the WPT is also pretty confident it’ll top the 3,600 players it saw last year as it’s upped this summer’s guarantee to $2m. For a $565 buy-in, that’s some pretty sweet coin.
Action will kick off at Aria May 31 with 10 starting flights to pick from. One re-entry per day is allowed plus the chance to re-enter any/all starting flights. Each starting flight ends in the money. More details from the WPT .
3) Devilfish: Legend Will Live Long After
By now you know the sad news of the passing of poker icon Dave “Devilfish” Ulliott. One of poker’s truest characters the trickle-down effect of his engaging appearances on Late Night Poker and beyond will be felt in the poker industry for years to come. What will also be felt? The innumerable personal and heartfelt moments and memories poker players the world over have shared with the Devilfish over the years.
Just a fraction of them can be found below. RIP to a true original.
