Today in the 3-Bet we find Phil Hellmuth figuring out who the sucker is in Open-Face Chinese, Mike “The Mouth” Matusow being, well, Mike “The Mouth” Matusow and Theo Jorgensen vanquishing some demons from the break-in that saw him shot twice in the leg.

1) Hellmuth Figures Out Who OFC Sucker Is

There’s always plenty of talk kicking around about the “next big game” in poker. With the average edge in Hold’em shrinking daily, pros are constantly trolling for new soft spots to pad their rolls.

2-7 Triple Draw, PLO and Mixed Games are all contenders, at least at the high-stakes, but the game with the biggest potential these days seems to be Open Face Chinese Poker.

Few players, pro or otherwise, have a handle on optimal strategy yet but the lust for the gamble is strong and OFC action is definitely there for the asking.

Given how big the game can run per point the swings can be extreme – especially if you’re slow to figure out your best moves.

Enter 13-time WSOP bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth, who may have seen a resurgence in effectiveness at the tourney tables lately but hasn’t quite carried it over to OFC:

2) Matusow Blows Up Old-School Style at WPT Bay 101

Despite his nice win against Hellmuth in OFC last night (see above) and his $750k score at the NBC Heads-Up Championship, there’s one thing you can always count on with Mike “The Mouth” Matusow.

That he’ll always be, well, Mike “The Mouth” Matusow.

The “old Mike,” as we’ve come to know and love from hours of WSOP footage, made an appearance at WPT Bay 101 yesterday as he punted off a big stack in classic form:

3) Jorgensen Revisits Break-In, Shooting

The poker world was shocked and dismayed late last year when PokerStars Pro Theo Jorgensen was shot three times during a robbery at his home outside Copenhagen.

Some of the terrfiying details were released via Danish media then but Jorgensen has opened up with more on the harrowing experience in a new blog post today.

Ready to make his return to poker at EPT London, Jorgensen hopes getting it out in advance will keep him from having to relive it again in interviews next week. An excerpt:

“Last time we ended with me walking down the stairs to a vault that I knew I couldn’t open – with to robbers tailing me, one with a submachine gun poking me in the back.

“That was not the worst part of that evening. The worst part was the few seconds were I wasn’t sure whether they only wanted some money or if they might harm us.

That part, on the other hand, was without a doubt the worst moment in my entire life. Luckily, when we first walked down into the basement, I didn’t get a chance to think that they might drag my wife with us, or do something even worse to threathen me, when I couldn’t open the safe.

“The only thing I think is that I’m about to get the beating of my life, and then they’ll leave.”
