Daily 3-Bet: Go Leah Go, Go Liu Go, Go Canada Go

The PokerListings Daily 3-Bet is a maple cruller, a crappy cup of coffee and a couple quality hours with a Mountie at secondary afternoon poker news customs.

Got a tip for a future 3-Bet? Drop a note in the comments and we’ll gladly take a look.

Today in a maple-leaf inspired 3-Bet we find Ivey Poker pro Mike Leah continuing his great start to 2014, Toronto’s Xuan Liu getting her patch on for the WPT Fallsview Poker Classic and Canadian poker players flooding the Twitter feeds of their American colleagues.

1) Mike “GoLeafsGoEh” Leah wins WPT Warm-Up

Ivey Poker pro and hockey fan Mike Leah is off to a very good start to 2014.

Mike Leah
Great start to 2013 for Mike Leah.

With one six-figure score already in the books in January, plus this miraculous one-outer in a basketball prop bet with Phil Ivey, good fortune seems to be shining on him.

Things got even better in the last 24 hours as Leah took down the $1k prelim at the WPT Fallsview Poker Classic in Niagara Falls for $118k last night.

Then this morning the Canadian Mens Hockey Team dispatched the Americans to the bronze-medal game with a 1-0 win in the Olympic semi-finals.

Needless to say, Leah is feeling good right about now:

I wish all of my American friends could see the smile on my face right now #sorrynotsorry— Mike Leah (@GoLeafsGoEh) February 21, 2014

2) Xuan Liu Reps 888 for WPT Fallsview Classic

We’ve been touting Toronto’s Xuan Liu as one of the “next big things” in poker for a couple of years now and we’re truly thrilled to see some of her hard work paying off.

Following up on a local gaming sponsorship for WPT China, Liu’s wearing the 888 patch for WPT Fallsview as she shared via Twitter yesterday:

So this is exciting…patched up for #WPTFallsview. Thank you, @888pokerpic.twitter.com/58SPAymmJU— Xuan Liu (@xxl23) February 20, 2014

She busted out of the first prelim but here’s hoping for a deep run in the Main Event (starting tomorrow; follow along with the WPT Live Updates here.)

3) Canada Beats US, Floods Twitter Feeds Everywhere

A record-setting World Series of Poker last year. Both #1 spots on the current Global Poker Index rankings (Mike McDonald and Daniel Negreanu).

A heart-stopping comeback win over the US in the Women’s gold-medal hockey game yesterday. Now a win over the US in the pressure-packed Olympic semi-finals for a spot in the mens gold-medal game against Sweden?

Everything’s coming up Canada these days, it seems, and its poker pros are letting the world know about it – much to the chagrin of some American followers:

With glowing hearts we see thee rise, The True North strong and free! From far and wide, O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.#GoCanadaGo— Daniel Negreanu (@RealKidPoker) February 21, 2014

Why do I feel like we just won gold when it was only the semi final’s!— Gavin Smith (@olegsmith) February 21, 2014

Can’t believe there’s still one more game to go. So where does a Canadian kid go to watch a hockey game at 4am on a Sunday in Vegas?— Terrence Chan (@tchanpoker) February 21, 2014

Oh Canada!!!!!!— Jonathan Duhamel (@JonathanDuhamel) February 21, 2014
