Cort Kibler-Melby Goes on Shocking $1.7m Upswing in High Stakes

German-American poker player Cort Kibler-Melby just made more money playing on Full Tilt in seven days than most people will make in a lifetime.

Kibler-Melby, who plays as thecortster, went on an extraordinary run on the site that saw him win a staggering $1.7 million.

Gus Hansen, Julius “KagomeKagome” Fleischer and Trueteller were the main victims on Full Tilt last week.

Old Viktor Blom rival Sanlker managed to win $700,000 while Alexander Kostritsyn held on to his place atop the profit leaderboard.

TheCortster Stirs Up High-Stakes 2-7

Summer is drawing to a close and the high-stakes action is intensifying. During the last seven days big sums were wagered at the tables and a few players recorded huge profits.

That applies in particular to German-American player Cort Kibler-Melby. The 28 year old moved to Berlin when he was 12 and is now living in England — like so many of his fellow high rollers — to play online poker full time.

This year thecortster has had several significant runs but there were also severe downswings. After picking up $1.7 million last week he can now afford a couple small losses.

Starting on Monday thecortster was crushing the 2-7 triple draw tables and made $800k on a single day. On Tuesday he was able to improve making another $400k to increase his winnings to $1.2 million.

On Wednesday he had already reached a $1.7 million dollar profit, which he won exclusively in 2-7 Triple Draw. No other player was able to win that much money in such a short time this year.

Cannon Fodder: Gus Hansen, KagomeKagome, Trueteller

Apart from thecortsterSanIker ($670k) and Isaac Haxton ($560k) also had very profitable weeks. Of course someone had to pay.

It is not really a surprise anymore that the name Gus Hansen shows up here. More surprising: Julius KagomeKagome Fleischer and Trueteller are now in the midst of serious downswings.

Trueteller lost $700k to Kibler-Melby alone and is now down $2 million this month. KagomeKagome also seems to have lost his winning ways.

Having been almost unbeatable in Limit games for a long time, KagomeKagome was forced to move to a new game and chose draw poker but that didn’t pay off.

In 2014, Fleischer is now down more than $2 million. That’s the third-worst result across the high-stakes scene.

Biggest Hand of the Week

Isaac Haxton

Isaac Haxton boats up.

The largest pot of the week played out on a No-Limit Hold’em only table, for a change. Isaac luvtheWNBA Haxton and NLHE expert Denoking, whose identity still hasn’t been revealed, were playing heads-up.

The blinds were $300/$600, and Denoking opened with a raise to $1,500. Haxton 3-bet to $5,400, and Denoking called to see a flop. It was

Which gave a lot of hands in the 3-bet range a lot of possibilities. Haxton took the lead with a bet of just $5,400, and Denoking just called. The turn was the

and brought a possible flush. Haxton continued with another bet — this time for $15k — and Denoking decided to call again. The river was the

and the gloves came off. Haxton put in another $33k, but Denoking thought that wasn’t enough. He moved all-in with $134k, but Haxton called undeterred. The hands at showdown:

Haxton:

Denoking:

The American hits a set on the flop and knows he is now way ahead but the heart on the turn wasn’t exactly the best card for him.

However he had the queen of hearts for the second nut flush draw so there was no way he would give up his hand whatsoever.

When the board paired on the river, he made a full house and scooped a pot worth $303k.
