You might as well get used to hearing the words Global Poker League today because you’re going to be hearing them a lot.

The inaugural GPL draft is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. PST today and once that’s concluded the American Poker Awards will kick off at 8:30 p.m. PST.

Both events will be taking place in LA at the SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills and the GPL even launched a re-designed website to coincide with the momentous day.

Pescatori’s Rome Emperors Kick Off Draft

The GPL draft lottery occurred earlier this month with Max Pescatori’s Rome Emperors snagging the coveted #1 overall pick.

PokerListings International took a crack at a semblance of a mock draft if you want to get a rough idea of who might go where.

Once the draft kicks off today at 1:30 p.m. there will be a total of four rounds. The team managers for all 12 teams will be on hand to hand-pick their team.

After the draft there will be “wildcard” selections where the team managers can pick players that weren’t necessary draft eligible.

The GPL is a snake draft, which means the order is reversed for the second round. That means the team that picks #1 overall will have to wait until the 24th pick to choose again.

After the draft wraps, attention will turn to the 2nd Annual American Poker Awards.
