Ahead of today’s Mixed Games Main Event, PokerStars Ambassadors Parker Talbot, Sebastian Huber, and GJ Reggie weighed in on what it takes to excel in this arena.

Parker Talbot, a five-time WCOOP champion with victories in formats like H.O.R.S.E and 8-Game, emphasized the importance of being prepared for the diverse challenges mixed games present. “Watching WCOOP and SCOOP final table replays is easily the best way to study if you aren’t using some of the few mixed game tools or paying for coaching,” he said. Talbot singled out 2-7 Single Draw and razz as two of his favorite formats, highlighting their unique blend of strategy and bluffing potential. “Mixed games are the ultimate test of skill, strategy, and adaptability.”

Sebastian Huber, a double WCOOP champion who secured a H.O.R.S.E title earlier this year, echoed Talbot’s emphasis on preparation but added that players should aim for versatility over specialization. “The more you practice, the better you will get,” he explained. “It’s so much better to have some knowledge of every single game rather than being an expert in just one format.” For Huber, understanding the basics of each game ensures players are never caught off guard, and he praised the fun, inclusive atmosphere of mixed games tournaments, which he described as “unlike any other.”

GJ Reggie, a BSOP 9-Game champion, offered a more tactical approach, focusing on the nuances of each game within the rotation. “Pay attention to everything: blinds, limits, game types, and position,” she advised. Reggie highlighted NL 2-7 Single Draw as a format where many players lack experience, noting the importance of understanding its unique dynamics, such as larger antes and fewer betting rounds.
