Jason Mercier did the incredible by winning his second WSOP bracelet in less than a week, but that’s not even the craziest part.

Mercier also finished second in another World Series of Poker tournament two days ago and he’s got hundreds of thousands of dollars in play in side bets.

Early this morning he defeated successful Australian poker pro James Obst to win the $10,000 HORSE event.

“This feels amazing,” Mercier told the WSOP.

“Especially after all that’s happened this week. I’m so exhausted but I also feel so much energy right now.”

Mercier officially won $422,874 but based on what he said a couple of days ago, he won even more on the side.

All in all the Florida native probably won close to $1 million.

Mercier told media he booked lots of bets on himself winning two bracelets, as well as the much-publicized three-bracelet bet he had against Vanessa Selbst.

“I can’t explain it. Before this (year’s WSOP), I bricked like 30 tournaments in a row,” said Mercier.

“I forgot how many it’s been. I also bricked the first nine WSOP events but then I finished first, second, and first. That kinda makes up for it.”

This is Mercier’s fifth career WSOP bracelet.

Mercier Overcomes Fatigue, Chip Lead

After making it to the final two players in three consecutive events Mercier had been playing long hours under high pressure.

Mercier cleaned up on prop bets.

At the midway point of last night’s final table the fatigue seemed to be setting in and as it turns out, Mercier was in for a long night.

Two-time WSOP bracelet winner Nick Schulman bowed out in third around 1:30am, paving the way for the heads-up match between Obst and Mercier.

When heads-up play began Obst had a roughly 2.7 to 1 chip lead with 6,230,000 to Mercier’s 2,325,000.

The situation deteriorated further for Mercier as he saw his stack cut down to less than 1 million.

But over the next two hours Mercier rallied back, took over the chip lead and eventually defeated Obst in a hand of Limit Hold’em.
