Alex Scott Says Farewell to WPT Global

On February 11th, 2025 the poker community was shocked by an announcement from WPT Global President Alex Scott: after almost three years in this role, Scott left the company. Why did this happen and what’s going on with WPT Global — read in this PokerListings article.

Why Did Alex Scout Leave WPT Global?

As Scott stated in his thread on X (ex-Twitter), his employment with WPT Global was terminated due to structural changes within the company. He also attached to the first post a video with his funny blooper:

“After nearly three years at the helm, I’m leaving WPT Global, and what better way to celebrate than with a never-before-seen blooper clip?

I’m proud of what we achieved together in the past three years…

Building a startup from scratch isn’t easy, and growing it to be the second-largest poker cash game pool in such a short space of time (not to mention a successful casino and sports betting operator as well) was beyond my expectations when I joined as employee number seven.

With our investors now pivoting to focus on the Asian markets, it is the right time for me to step away.

Shout out to the many great members of my team, and my friends at the World Poker Tour, a brand that gave me my first chance in the industry.

I look forward to sharing what’s next for me soon!”

Some players saw his mention of shifting to Asian markets as a worrying sign of room’s possible exit from Europe. Unfortunately, Scott wasn’t in a position to confirm or deny the reality of this scenario.

A few poker players paid their respects below the thread, noting Scott’s impressive work as a president, the achievements of WPT Global during his time and the now-former president’s positive personality as someone who truly cares about poker. For example:

Sam Dobbins: Disappointing. Always felt you were very responsive to players on here despite never having met you in real life. GL in your future endeavours.

Dave Jorgensen: It was very nice chatting with you at the Wynn in December. Good luck in your future endeavors.

DrAlexChauran: Run good in your next chapter! Thanks for all the good work!

Rafael: It was remarkable how much WPT Global has evolved over the years. Great job. Good luck with future projects, and may the site continue to provide excellent service.

Did Anyone Else Part Ways With WPT Global?

On February 1st, 2025 another member of the WPT Global team, streamer and brand’s ambassador Jonathan “apestyles” Van Fleet shared on X that he ended his contract with room. He didn’t specify the reasons, stating:

Van Fleet was a part of the team from December 2023. He actively streamed all year until October 2024 and then stopped for unknown reasons, meaning his abrupt departure could just be a consequence of exhaustion that comes with doing ambassador’s job.

However, it could also be a direct follow up of leadership changes happening at WPT Global & WPT, which became public in December 2024 and January 2025.
