Daniel Negreanu finally got the best of long-time buddy Phil Ivey when all the cameras were rolling in the final episode of Shark Cage’s second season.
Negreanu was the ultimate winner of a six-player winner-take-all Sit & Go that also featured Maria Ho, Jen Shahade, Antonio Esfandiari and Andre Akkari.
The finale episode aired last night and was posted to YouTube earlier today.
Akkari, Shahade, Esfandiari Bust Early
Andre Akkari and Jen Shahade were the early casualties at the Shark Cage final table as Antonio Esfandiari built a massive stack.
Eventually Ivey started picking Esfandiari off and finally sent him to the rail in fourth in massive coin flip.
That paved the way for an extended three-way battle between Ho, Negreanu and Ivey.
Ho tried to mount a comeback but eventually succumbed to Ivey like most other players at the final table.
That gave producers a dream heads-up match with arguably the two most famous poker players in the world competing for $1m.
Negreanu and Ivey have over $50m in lifetime live tournament earnings but they’ve never heads-up against each other in a televised event.
Negreanu Locks Up Another Huge Score
Both Negreanu and Ivey showed an uncanny skill for reading each others hands throughout the heads-up match.
In the end Negreanu got the best of it this time around and finally locked up the $1m and joined Griffin Benger as the only Shark Cage champions. Coincidentally both players are Toronto natives although Negreanu now lives in Las Vegas.
